when you turn on your PS3 just hold the power button until you hear a beep, then let go, it should send you to the XMB

Okay, thanks. What would have gone wrong that would cause this. I should be able to quite just from the command line shouldn't I?

There is another way of dong it. In yellow dog go to the start and then system and something else like that i think just look around in there and it should be around somewhere. If you don't know where the start menu is click the dog on the tool bar.
