I go into /etc/rc.conf to change the desktop thing to kde-3.5 or gnome or whatever. (It's currently fluxbox and i want it to be kde-3.5). I've already done the prior steps to make it work, but when i change it to kde-3.5 and hit save, it says error writing /etc/rc.conf: read only file system. If I try to edit anything it says this. and when i run the /etc/rc.conf i do type -w to make it writable, but it still doesnt work. please give me a solution.

Not at kboot.
Your machine comes up. You enter your username and password, you are logged in. Now, open a command window, and type "sudo nano -w /etc/rc.conf" it'll ask you for the root password. Enter it, make your changes and save. The other way (easier IMO) is to just login as root at the beginning. If you still have problems with a read-only filesystem, it could be that something is corrupt, and it won't allow changes. During bootup, look at the logs, it will suggest you run something (fdisk I believe) with some options that should "fix" the drive for you. You haven't been doing things like turning off the machine without using the reboot/shutdown command have you...? |
