So after installing UBUNTU it prompted me about an update which took a long time to download and install. After installation I restarted but now it won't start; the PS3 will beep several times then it shuts down. On a good note it will stop at the kboot prompt so I can go back to the PS3 XMB prior to the beeping. Is there anything I can do at the prompt to get UBUNTU running again or worst case delete to reinstall?

I take it you can't reinstall 7.04 on top of the dodgy new install?

If you can't, I think a HDD Format is on the cards...
