Default Gentoo; Gnome - Emerge error?

Ok. So, my husband and I finally have a working install of Gentoo on our PS3, but we are encountering problems with the installation of Gnome and Firefox both (tried installing Firefox for Enlightenment before attempting Gnome).

This is the error feedback on our attempt to emerge gnome according to the instructions on: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gnome-config.xml

Quote:
* Could not find a usable .config in the kernel source directory.
* Please ensure that /usr/src/linux points to a configured set of Linux sources.
* If you are using KBUILD_OUTPUT, please set the environment var so that
* it points to the necessary object directory so that it might find .config.

* If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.
Does anyone have any advice concerning this? I still have the full build up in the Terminal if further details are needed for reference.

Same here. Ya know how it downloads a new file every now and then? Well after it does about 9-15 of them, I get a similar error. I'm currently down do about 191 to go. I've skrewed up somewhere probably and am going to kick myself when someone says where. How do I delete these directories and start over?
