Default Please help with Ubuntu Wifi

someone whos good with linux help me!

ok, so im tyring to de package something (i think, thats what i understand of it) and i have the file on my desktop and i go in the terminal and type
Code:
sudo dpkg -i linux-image-2.6.22-rc2_2.6.22-rc2-10.00.Custom_powerpc.deb
and i enter myp assword then it comes up with an error telling me it couldnt find the file ect not a correct archive thing, so my question is, how do i direct the command to the right place? or where does the file need to be for it to work right?

im following the guide and it says just save file to a known directory, then step one is the code i put, but when i do that it tells me that there was an error and unknown file/directory...WTF? the terminal default is lik, on the desktop, i put the file on the desktop, why cant it just work?

also, if i click on the file and install or extract it, is that in theory the same as just "dpkg"?

k well...what i did was extract the .deb to the desktop, thenr an the command again and it did some stuff, towards the end though it told me something about ubuntu firmware and how it oculdnt find something but i kept going...

then i got to the end of the guide and i edited my kboot.conf to the right thing like how it says in the guide, but then what? how do i save it then close the terminal? when i just close it, it doesnt save...so...?
