Default YDL Installation Problems

Well, I've finally got my hands on a PS3 and a USB Keyboard and Mouse. I decided to install YDL 5.02, because it has wifi support and is made specifically for the PS3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't it run better than Fedora or Gentoo on the PS3 because it's designed for the multiple cores?

Anyway, I've tried to install it as per instructions on the YDL site. I've tried the current release, and the next oldest 2 after that. Each gives me the same error during installation. I get the partition table in (I have / as 35GB, /home as 10GB, and swap as 1GB), and it installs all of the packages. Whatever the step is after all of the packages are installed, it crashes on. It says "finishing installation", and then gives me an exception has occurred screen.

I've tried both the Anaconda installer and the textonly installer, with no luck.

I've installed Linux before on normal PC's, so I'm no noob at this (but I don't claim to be an expert).

Anyways, I was hoping that somebody could shed some light on my problem. Is there something I should try? Or should I just scrap YDL all together and try Fedora?

All distro's support wifi now(now 100% sure Fedora does but gentoo and ubuntu do for sure). Gentoo runs pretty fine on my PS3 and the portage overlay has applications compiled specially for the PS3, not just a regular PPC computer.

I dont know much about Yellowdog so cant really give you any help there but I would recommend choosing a different distro.

Sorry, what's the portage overlay?

I'm more familiar with Fedora, so I don't know

And I'll look into wifi on Fedora. I've read that it doesn't have it yet, but all of the pages have been old. Can somebody confirm this?

Which distro would you recommend?

Portage is a package management system used by Gentoo. So you never have to download anything just type in emerge [insert app name] and it will do everything for you(more info about portage found here).

I can't seem to find any solid info whether or not Fedora supports wifi either.

Id recommend gentoo(Here's why) tho it can be difficult to install so might want to try ubuntu which seems to be the fan favorite around here.

Now I just gotta figure out how to add controller and wifi to gentoo, and I'm all set.

I also like how gentoo compiles all of the apps you install, so better compatibility.

Thanks

And this is a good site for the names of apps in portage.
