Linux on the PS3 is really slow (maybe it is just Ubuntu) but it can't even open Gimp at a steady speed (apparently)... not sure how GOW would go!!

But you could always try WINE if it is available for YDL

No Windows emulator works well on Linux, they will take almost 50x more time to load than the original thing.

I doubt it, at least till the rsx chip is unlocked. Even then I doubt it would change the situation.

Wine won't work. It require some x86 functions that the PS3 doesn't have.

Yes QEMU works pretty quickly with Win 98 I've got Win Xp on it too via YDL but xp is just a little slow well its pretty slow...

but to answer your question SuperBatXS yeah you might be able to get some low quality games to run with a Windows emulator, but no way in hell can it handle gears...

While it may work the spec of the PS3 linux makes running any PC game stupid. Even if we had access to the RSX the 256MB of RAM wont meet any recent games minimum spec.

Ya I have used wine plenty of times on ubuntu, and let me say one thing, it will not emulate a pc game. Let alone run a normal application.

Sullivan, do you even think before you post?

Many games run perfectly in Wine. I've had WoW running at full speed with a better ping than in Windows in Wine. Additionally, many people have the Steam games up and running with no problem. Honestly, do a little research next time.

Hardrive as much as I dislike Sullivan he is 100% correct that you cannot get games running under wine on the PS3. This is the PS3 Linux forums.

Wine Is Not an Emulator
W.I.N.E.

Also you could use usermode-qemu to launch the x86 version of WINE instead of using a whole virtual machine, however it would be slow.

Ok this is just stupid. Clearly no one can read that this is for PS3 Linux.

Here are the specs that mean gaming is entirely pointless within linux on a PS3
256MB RAM
No GPU

Linux on it's own is slow on the PS3. While it may be possible to run WINE or QEMU on the PS3 it will not be able to run Windows games.

Closed unless anyone has any useful comments to add.
