Simple question but not in the FAQ. Do you need to format your PS3's hard drive in order to use a Linux Live CD on a PS3?

Of course you don't need to on a PC, but the only guide I saw which mentioned this was also geared toward full installations and included a partitioning step.

I think so, and yes, there are Live CD's.
But it is slow as HELL.
Slower then thick **** through a straw.

kool, i never knew there were live cd's for ps3 linux.

Yeah you need to format it and install an otheros.bld, then switch the default OS to otheros, then have the live CD in when it boot.

When you want to intall Ubuntu you first get the full dekstop with everything and a Icons that says "Install".
So you can install it if you think it's worth it.

Only if you use the Live CD. You can use the alternate desktop CD and do a text based installation.
