I was thinking that this board needed a thread like this

I found this site http://fr.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/Yellow_Dog_Linux.html that has a bunch of apps for yellowdog i havent tested them yet

Oh, I didn't realize that. I was looking around, couldn't find any downloads for the iso's, the website listed prices for it, so I assumed it was a purchase thing.

Yes you need to format your PS3 to allocate 10GB to a linux partition.

If you have an external Hard Drive then you can backup everything, then format and then restore everything.

Pretty much anything that's linux compatible and is built for the PowerPC architecture will work.
