I got a 60 gig ps3 and have always wanted to try this other OS feature, mainly to just browse the web, give ps3 that alternate pc feel but I got a few questions.
1. Is it safe? 2. Wihich OS is best for my situation? 3. 10 gigs would be good for my situation right?, I just want the OS for PC feel Firefox web browsing on ps3, I heard unbuntu runs good and is simple to navigable do you recommend that O? 4. Are OS updated automatically or would I need to install over and over once it gets update? 5. Will my Friendslist/Trophies be gone after formatting the HDD?, I will backup my game saves and pics. 1) Yes, the otherOS is completely sandboxed from the PS3. However, when you reformat, back up all your stuff, as it will get deleted
2) Ubuntu is a great first linux OS, and comes with almost eveything you need ![]() 3) You may get crowded with only 10GiB, but should be fine. 4) Linux auto-updates itself (alot!). 5) I think your friendslist is bound to your PSN, and so should your trophies. Use the PS3's backup utility to ensure everything is backed up.

Umm.... If you are new to linux, you would be best going with YDL instead of Ubuntu.
And if you are going to go with Ubuntu, use xubuntu instead, it's a little faster.

True, however Enlightenment may be a bit 'heavy', but YDL was designe for the PS3, so that's a plus. Either way they're both great distros.
