Im gonna focus on saving memory for the ps3 and for my pc, Xubuntu uses at leat 50mb less than ubuntu, so I was thinking is xubuntu able to be installed on the ps3? So do I just install ubuntu and install xubuntu onto it?

Well considering the PS3 only has 256MB of it, Definitely.

Well it does save a bunch of RAM too. And Xubuntu is a standalone distribution, you do not install it over ubuntu.

Technically it's not standalone, as one could install xfce then remove gnome, essentially converting their previous gnomified standard ubuntu to xfce. You can also have xfce in addition to gnome, or even kde. All it is is a switch of display managers.

I meant it uses 50mb less of ram... Well If its only 256 mb of ram... dang it can only run like 1 program stably right?

Xubuntu is packaged as a standalone distribution and the PPC version should work fine on your PS3.
