Mint is garbage in my opinion, has never worked(properly) before. I recommend installing a distribution like opensuse or such in a virtual machine and kinda get used to it first before doing anything, so that way you don't screw up, as screwing up is easy if you don't know much about it.

Linux Mint isn't a good distribution anyway. Getting off of that, I'd recommend either Yellow Dog or (oh god I'm actually recommending Ubuntu) Ubuntu. I did a Gentoo install once but it took me quite a great while to do although it was the best minimal system for the PS3 if properly done. I wouldn't reccommend you do Gentoo unless you compile kernels for fun. Lastly, you can try Fedora like NoEffex says. Honestly, other than for emulators I wouldn't use Linux on the PS3 if you just plan on playing videos and looking on the web because XMB already has that.

Well I mainly installed it to get to know the system a little, Im planning on switching to linux when I get my new computer.
I ended up installing Xubutu 8.10 though, but I cant seem to change the screen size, anywones got a tip? sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg just gives me settings for the keyboard and the only resolution in screen settings (using the swedish language, not exacly sure of the english name) is default. |

I'd probably try and mess with the display settings for the thing in administration(Ubuntu's Xfce layout is all weird), but I'd gander at all the options and try to find it.

Welllll I believe the xorg configuration is at
/etc/X11/xorg.conf (you'd need some root to write to it) You can tinker with that, but ehhhhh, you gotta know what you're doing. If anyone else knows how to tinker with xorg via commandline, pretty please spill it. I remember there was a tool that was just a bunch of asking questions but I forgot the name of it.
