CD Device detection problem in installation

Hi i am trying to install ubuntu 8.10 alt ppc on my ps3 and when it comes to detecting the cd drive it doesnt work. i burnt it onto a cd rom and was able to go through everything up until the cd drive detection. anyone else have these problems? solutions?

i have the newer 80 Gb ps3 if that helps at all
and the cd i used was a "fujilim" (pretty sure i spelled it wrong)
and i burned at 10X (that was the slowest i could do it)

also i am getting a weird noise from the ps3 at the blu ray drive when im installing. this normal?

last thing if the cd drive is not detected would that mean everything else would not be able to be able to install? cause i am thinking that i should skip it and install it later when im in the OS.

if it helps right after the kboot screen i get a black screen that would say something like

"end of request...device sr0... logical block at (some number)"

anyone get the same thing or do i have a bigger problem to deal with?
