first off I want to say thanks Cyanide because you DID end up answering my resolution question.

Noone had explained to me what the VGA options were in the list you posted, and being a linux n00b, I had no idea.

So for those unenlightened:
SXGA is 1280x1024. The other resolutions shown in the table are WXGA (1366x768) and WUXGA (1920x1200).

Hopefully that helps and thanks Cyanide again!

Is YDL Linux 5.0 going to be any easier to install than FC5? Or will it follow the same steps as FC5?

some questions for people running FC5 right now.

1) someone open /etc/X11/xorg.conf and near the bottom under "Devices" tell me what two values it lists, (FC6 says Driver "fbdev")

2) what keyboard+mice are you guys using?, my keyboard is a funky wireless one and it only works if i plug them in after the ps3 has booted. (for otheros at least, works fine normally)

Default install does not accept password

Hallo !
At installation of fedora 6 the system asks me for a new password.
Whatever I input the system says : wrong password, it must be a dictionary passw.
What does that mean ?
Which password do I have to define and input ?
Because after installation it asks me for a login password and does not accept anything I input.
Please help
Thank you

Unhappy

ok so i installed fc6, all went swell. Now im having the video problems. I tried the

Quote:
Edit /etc/kboot.conf and add a special parameter at the end of the kernel line:
linux="/boot/vmlinux-2.6.16 initrd=/boot/initrd.img video=ps3fb:mode:3"

Here's the full list of mode-ids
0: auto mode , default value
YUV 60Hz 1:480i 2:480p 3:720p 4:1080i 5:1080p
YUV 50Hz 6:576i 7:576p 8:720p 9:1080i 10:1080p
RGB 60Hz 33:480i 34:480p 35:720p 36:1080i 37:1080p
RGB 50Hz 38:576i 39:576p 40:720p 41:1080i 42:1080p
VESA 11:WXGA 12:SXGA 13:WUXGA

Just change the mode:X to reflect your resolution's mode-id. Reboot and it should use the new resolution settings. Give me a holler if it doesn't. I'll look for alternatives.
i did the

linux="/boot/vmlinux-2.6.16 initrd=/boot/initrd.img video=ps3fb:mode:1"

because i got a 27 " Phillips tube tv, im guessing it 480i, but it still has a ****ed up video when i startx

at first i was doing it via fc6 command prompt, but then i read somewhewre it must be done in kboot.
i did it on both and it still dont work

im using regular yellow red white cables.

someone know what the heck is up??????????????????

also tried the

ps3video mode -v 1
ps3video mode -v 33
ps3video mode -v -d 1 nothing same stuff

So while this might sound new to some, it might be an known issue to experts.

I tried installing the OS last night, it did warn me that it will take aprox 2hrs. During the install, I noticed a new message on the command line while doing the initial Full install.

It's a 60GB Model, with 40GB for gaming, and 10GB OS.

I also formated my PS3 HD all the way after the failure, and it says 47/55GB ( nothing loaded on this thing, is this normal? )

the error I got during install was;

Warning:librarygc 4.3.X-X.rpm NOKEYID - and then followed by a blinkijng crusor? Is this a fault, and is this an idication that the installation has failed?

Also, I downloaded the ISO with Bittorent, and burnt on a 4x burner.

Thanks,

smokey

Cyanide,
First off thanks a ton for everything so far. You rock man.

Secondly, I'm trying to run FC6 at 720p resolution, but can't seem to get X to agree with my TV. I can verify that the output is 720p in console mode, however X seems to have an issue. It looks like it's interlacing the display and not putting the lines together right. I'm using a Sharp Aquos LCD with the HDMI connection, btw. Even at the default resolution with no video option in the boot config shows up all messed up once X starts.

Any ideas? I'm going to test some more but I've been out of Linux for a while, and things are looking quite different. Xorg.conf for instance has no modelines which seems odd.

Thanks in advance.

Any ideas on using Reiser and disabling the SELinux? This hard drive is killing me.

Here is a great site that I found that explain the basics of Linux in great detail. http://www.linuxnewbieguide.org/

I think it would make a great edition in the first post of this thread as it will help inform others about what they're getting into.

We do have something cool coming up soon which will be enough to answer all your questions .

As for a list of sites, you can create a new thread with a bunch of links. If it gets enough support, I'll integrate it into one of the guides
