ZOD worked for me, Although if you're using a SDTV (4:3) you might have a bit of issues with the video refresh rate. Editing the x11 server sould fix that.

why do you need a memory stick or other media storage as the installation guide says so?

so you can put the boot loadero nto the ps3.you can use a cd,but it would just be a waste unless it was rewritable,cause its only like a 10mb file so a 700mb cd would be a waste.

hi im new here and i have a question regarding the installation of the ps3 linux fedora , when i finish installing the dvd it asks me to put the addon cd in and when i do that it says installation canceled what should i do please help me

Someone else had that same error. First go back to your GameOS by keeping the Power button pressed for 5 seconds when starting the PS3.

Then format the HDD, and start from scratch. I've heard it fixes that problem.

i have the os installed on the ps3 and i can see tux the penguin but when i go to
enter the command to install the Fedora Core 5 dvd, it says: "Not Fedora Core 5
Install DVD". I have tried 7 different discs; bootable discs, data discs. They are all dvd+rw, so the ps3 reads the disc but it says its not the correct install dvd!
The file is "FC-5-ppc-DVD". Can any1 help?

thanks cyanide for answering but before i do that i downloaded YLD5 and install it. which "in my opinion" is better than fedora 5

Try a DVD-R/+R.

hi, I'm a total linux newb and I'm fumbling my way through this linux install, I've gotten as far as getting the FC 5 xwindow up and the network connection working, but I can't seem to get the sound to work. The sound card detection app just says No soundcards were detected. Did anyone else have this problem? Is there some special config required for the sound to work?

Thanks for the help w/ the installation problem. But now, i was adjusting my resolution settings for my 27" 720p HDMI tv and when it goes to the part with the 8 penguins (sorry for my newb phrasing), it doesnt show anything at all. DO i have to reformat the hard drive all over again and reinstall or can this be fixed? thanx

You can only do a 10/X or X/10 kinda setup. That's just the way Sony is allowing it right now.

I know this has been asked before but I haven't found an answer to it.

Is there any work arounds to get the wirless internet to work? I know that not even YDL supports it yet but maybe there is a patch or file that I am missing somewhere. (Currently using Fedora 5 full)

Also is there sound support at this time? I am using the HDMI connection, if there is sound I am not too worried about the wifi because I can just burn CD-RW's to move my media around.

I appreciate any answers that I receive.

No Wifi drivers currently. Sound works, not sure if it works through HDMI though.

For some reason I am missing the ever popular
ps3videomode command in the latest (end of December) distro of ydl 5.0
It is not in my PATH, neither in /usr/bin /usr/sbin

Thank you for the quick response to my question. One more question now though. Can I use the componet/composite sound cables and hdmi video out.. Or do I have to use the optical audio out with HDMI to get sound to work in YDL?

I got the CELL-Linux-CL_20061208-ADDON.iso for FC5 from here

it is more recent than the one on this forums and fixes some drivers issues.

This web site also contains kernel patches for 2.6.19 for brave people, and source code for the sony utilities.

If you've installed the full version, just type startx
You can't have a pre-installed GUI with the minimal mode.

Just click on the left-most button on the taskbar like menu and you'll see it there "Log off". Select that and it will give you the option to turn it off

i don't see anything else in the taskbar to the right thre litle boxes to the left nathing but i do have a black age around the tv that is about 1.1/2 eachs
i think thas covering the menu or whatever
anyways i turnit off by going in to a folder that had the option of loging off
i click on that then some scroling came then i tipe [halt] and off it wen lol
i know thats no the right ways i hop to fixit soon. thanks

the screen is righ in the center it looks fine just like my pc

i have a problem with my ps3

i have 60g ps3 with a mouse and keyboard
standar sd tv with 480i

i parttion the hdd
i installed the two installer from sony and terrasoft
when i restarted the ps3
the linux kboot comes and i put in the dvd and the keyboard doesnt work
and im stuck in the kboot i cant go back to the ps3 game os and im stuck i restarted the ps3 and it loads the kboot and im stuck with it can u help me

Keep the power button pressed for 5+ seconds when starting the PS3. It will boot to the Game OS.
