Hi all, I've installed FC5 on a UK 60Gb PS3 with 10Gb allocated to OtherOS and the Add On CD then chosen my root password. However after a reboot I'm still left at the kboot prompt.
Typing startx gives the error /init: eval: 1: startx: not found Same thing happens with ps3videomode. I was under the impression that the kernel should be compiled after this stage and then Fedora will load. Not sure if this will matter but I pressed y too early when I first inserted the add on CD and so it failed to read it. So I re-installed FC5 figuring that the installer would format sda. Any help and pointers much appreciated. |

Code:
/etc/kboot.conf (putting it in code so its easier to read) Code:
kboot.conf # The following is an example kboot configuration file. Edit it # to suit your needs before attempting to reboot your system or # you may be unable to boot the new install. # default: the default kernel label to boot should the user not make # a selection. Uncomment the following line and set a default kernel label. default=Gentoo # timeout: number of seconds to wait for user input before the default # kernel label is booted. Uncomment the following line and set timeout. timeout=10 # The format from this point on is within a kernel label. At a minimum, # you must pass the kernel and root device. The syntax is as follows: # # label='device:<path_to_kernel> initrd=device:<path_to_initrd> kernel_options' # # You should also pass the video options as well. An example of video # options are as follows: # # 480i = ps3fb:mode:1 # 576i = ps3fb:mode:6 # 720p = ps3fb:mode:3 # 1080i = ps3fb:mode:4 # 1080p = ps3fb:mode:5 # # You can review all possible video modes using the ps3videomode application # provided by the ps3pfutils package. i.e. ps3videomode -v will display # possibilities. # The following is an example kernel label. Is it true that no versions of linux (Fedora Core, YDL, Gentoo) have support for the PS3s wifi card? If so, i'm not going to bother getting linux if i have to get a dam cable through the house

Is there anyway to get Gentoo running in 1080p? I have the kboot.conf file set to 1080p but it stays at 1688x964 or something like that. I saw a topic about this awhile ago but no solution was given. Can this be fixed? Last edited by Sinfulfate; 04-12-2007 at 07:37 AM.. |

I guess that's a major disadvantage of having linux for PS3
Do you think there will be support for the PS3s Wifi in the near future on any type of Linux distro? |

You can use wireless with any Linux distro on the PS3, you just need some extra hardware. You can buy a wireless game adapter from linksys. I'm currently using a game adapter from linksys on my PS3 to connect to my wireless network and it works perfectly. The PS3 doesn't heat that much anymore and I definitely get a better signal than the the PS3's integrated card gives me. If you are considering going wireless with linux on your PS3 that is your only choice unless you want to wait a while until sony releases some drivers for the devs to use.

Hi, i have installed FC5 full and i noticed that i only have 1.1GB free. There is aload of crap installed that i dont even want such as the multipul media players and useless image tools and i would like to get rid of them.
Is there any way to remove them? I have tried the add / remove programs bit in the menu but whilst getting the list of installed programs i get an error. Is this going to be a long and complicated commandline session to remove each and every1 of them manually or is there some other, easy GUI trick i can use? Thx |
