What is Linux? (I know it's an OS)

I don't know anything thing there is to know about Linux except that it is an OS. I have no idea what you can do with linux or what it even looks like running. Ya im a linux noob. Is it really that great? Please just tell me the basics. What are some cool things you can do with linux?

Linux is an OS, it can be run in many eletronics, iPods, XBOX, PS2. I think it was made before the OSX for apple came out?

Everything windows can do just about, just takes a little more effort and common sense.
A pain to get alot of games running on it, but in other ways its alot nicer than windows.

It's really in the eye of the user, personally i prefer windows, but mainly because the advanced intricacies arent something i require from day to day.

Still though, its a complete and fully functional extension of the playstation 3, i only hope more people pick it up and this section of the forum livens up a bit.
ALOT of fun could be had with this.
