Default Ripping Movies to Drive via Linux?

It would be nice to rip my blu-ray Movies (I have 4 so far) to the hard drive and be able to play them on my PS3 without having to swap every time. Is this possible through Linux like the guy did with the PS3 games? This is no way for piracy (especially since you can't even rent Blu-Ray Movies - not at my video store anyways). I just wanted to put all my movies on the hard drive.

I think sony would argue with you not thinking its piracy....not that i'm against legal "back ups"

Well, I really don't care what Sony thinks. But I'm just saying that so the Mods here don't jump on me for ripping blu-ray.

Plus, I don't see how this can be considered piracy anytime soon. I mean, purchasing a $1,000 Blu-Ray burner + Blu-ray discs is not a feasible means for piracy lol. Heck, the blank Blu-Ray's by themselves are almost the price of a Blu-Ray Blockbuster. Why the hell would anyone want to pirate them? They'd end up paying double for the movie that they could purchase for half the price legally? lol

see my point...

You're on the wrong site if you want a ripping lesson. Even if you use it only on stuff you bought, someone could stumble onto this topic and go about pirating.

I think they gave up when it came to the PSP scene as everything they do always has a vulneribility and probably decided that channeling their efforts to something that will please consumers will get them more sales than trying to stop our efforts.

If you were Sony, why would you spend thousands of dollars on a team that is trying to STOP pleasing the consumers when they will outsmart them anyways? It's better to help them with something they want. That way Sony gets more sales and they don't have to spend money on a special team. Either way, pirates will find a way. You might as well try and help your legit customers.

The thing is, if someone released a blu-ray movie player for Linux, you'd probably be able to rip and view them right off your hard-disk. Unlike for PC, you can easily mount ISO images INSIDE Linux, so the only problem is actually a missing player..

To play or rip Blu-ray movies in Linux the ACSS copy protection needs to be cracked just like DVD.

So I'm locking this for now.
