Now that people have started pirating the games, This is Sony's way of blocking people from playing them in Linux......

Perhaps. We all know what piracy did to the psp. Game devs will avoid piracy due to lack of sales and there wont be any good games. Gets me mad sometimes.

Not always true. It depends on the circumstances. In the original Xbox, sales weren't hurt from pirates because you couldn't play online with pirated games. There are many factors that will deter people from Piracy, and honestly, Piracy won't be a big issue for the PS3 for a while. At least until Blu-Ray media + burners become cheap. No one will purchase a $1,000 burner + a $25 blank Blu-Ray disc to pirate a $60 game. The reason piracy hurts PC's is because CD's are very cheap and easy to acquire. Blu-Ray is still far off from that. And hard drive space will still cost a lot if you plan to store them on the PS3.

Well, if you look around there is already ps3 piracy using a linux method. Piracy was low back then because of the need for modchips. But now its all software. Wouldn`t expect pirates to keep there games forever either.

I think he meant ripping the games. There has been no way to play a backup PS3 game yet.

If AND ONLY IF, Sony allows RSX support for Linux, Then Pirates will IMMEDIATLY be able to to play ripped ISO's. That is the main problem.

However, How are they going to transfer 5-50 gig games to everyone?

I dont think you want to wait 5 days to download a game. Come on........ And they wont fit onto the DVDs, So you will need a Blu-Ray burner.

sony has no control over whether or not you can use opengl under linux. Sony has no say on what happens under linux. If Nvidia, or an open source dev comes out with an PPC nvidia driver then you have access to opengl, unless Sony has hardware locked out the RSX chip.

Linux and Sony are not the same. Sony lets you run linux but they have no say on what linux you use or what happens on it.

Uhh..Nobody has started pirating games. Dumping a game != getting it running.

Besides, P S 2 N F O are nothing but a bunch of liers and stealers. Not like they'll know what to do with the dumps anyways

All hardware on the system is protected by the hypervisor, which controls and abstracts all the hardware. Because you do not have direct access to the hardware, there is no way to get hardware accelerated 3D, even if we had an Nvidia driver.

I am interested to see if Xorg is using Vesa or nv for the graphics driver by default. (nv is the open source driver for Nvidia cards - no 3d acceleration either.)

You can find out by checking /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Let's get tis straight...
A Blu-ray burner = $1000,-
A Blu-ray disc = ? (probarly a lot of money)
A game = 5/50 Gigabyte
Downloading a 50 GB game = A ****LOAD OF TIME NEEDED!
Burning a Game to a Blu-ray disc = LOT's of time needed...

Overall status after pirating a game:
About $1050,-
Around 10 days spend on downloading........

I give up
Im going to buy the games
