I read the installation PDF for YDL and they said to hook up a USB keyboard and mouse to the PS3. Does a blutooth keyboard and mouse work with or it should be USB keyboard????

well i have hooked up a USB keyboard and mouse together and it works! What I recommend doing tho to save a port is too get an adaptor (its usb) that has 2 slots on one usb for a keyboard (purple) and for a mouse (green) so you dont even have to worry about 2 ports and finding a usb compatible mouse and keyboard. I dont even know why those are USB anyway. . .because only laptops use those for usb and why would you need a usb keyboard for your laptop! Did you get Yellow Dog yet!!!!?

No man not yet. I am planing on getting one when it is free for public release. My concern is I wanna buy a blutooth keyboard and mouse. But the installation guide says USB KEYBOARD. So which one should I buy?

I dont want any wires hooked up to the PS3 I wanna go wireless.

Good idea. I just bought a dual adapter for $2 off eBay.

I don't think you can use Bluetooth keyboards with the PS3 but I guess with linux and the right drivers it should be possible. But wont work in the PS3 XMB.

Whereas wireless USB will work fine but the range isn't usually very good 1 maybe 2 meters maximum.

Default Logitech Dinovo Edge almost works

I've been working on this for a few days. The Dinovo Edge has the touchpad built in and is very slick. With the BLuetooth adapter plugged into the USB on the PS3 it works great in Game mode.

The problem is - when I boot to YDL 5 the keyboard works but not the touchpad. I'm modified the hid-core.c hid-input.c and hid.h as mentioned in
http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-us.../msg17777.html

but couldn't get the kernel to recompile. I now see the make ps3pf_defconfig command in the add-on docs I may be able to get it.

The doc says make ps3pf_defconfig and then make. It doesn't say make modules_install. Is that not needed?

Has anyone got this to work in YDL? I really don't want a seperate mouse/keyboard on the couch.

Thanks all
Doc

If you want to install the modules, you'll need to type make modules_install. 'make' alone appears to compile the kernel and -may- compile the modules as well.

I'm running on a custom kernel that has generic wireless activated, and mkinitrd didn't work until I ran make modules_install after make.

Be sure to edit your Makefile to give yourself a unique EXTRAVERSIONS tag, else your new modules will overwrite your old ones.

David.
