Default Linux OS Installer install error 80040103

Good morning everyone.

I got my 20 gig PS3 yesterday, and after downloading PPC FC5 last night,
I was ready to start installing Linux this morning.

There was a firmware 1.11 install this morning (I got 1.1 update last night)
before I started to do the install, which went through just fine.

Then I downloaded the 'otheros.self' from the Sony web site and burned it
to CD-RW. I did the 10 gig partition to Otheros, then started to install
the 'otheros.self'.

After going to through the terms and conditions I got the following error msg.

No appricable install data was found. (80040103)

Note the "applicable" error message was even spelled wrong -- but I copied it EXACTLY from the screen, so now I cannot proceed unless I find a bug fix..

No Linux Joy

*sigh*

Anyone have any idea what I did wrong?

Thanks!!

how about reading the part where you take otheros.bld off the addon cd in the kboot folder and put it in the same folder as otheros.self?
that way it will actually have something to install..

I think I figured it out finally... here is what I learned..

I'd been confused and thought otheros.bld and otheros.self were one file instead of two files...

The other mistake I learned (which wasn't intuitive) was that after I took the CD-RW out to burn the 2nd file (both otheros.bld & otheros.self) and re-inserted the CD-RW, I ran the installer, but I got an application data corrupt (or something like that) error message.

What I had to do was to physically reboot the PS3 and the install finally went through.. It seems to be caching some file checksum even though I re-burned the CD-RW.

Finally got kboot up and running. Thanks for the help - onward towards the actual install.
