I got YDL, Installed it and everything. I booted it with the "ydltext".
It goes through all the loading procedures and gets to the localhost login. I login as Root, and it goes through. When I type: startx , A bunch of stuff shows on the screen real quick, Then the screen goes black. Thats it. THATS IT! The Screen goes totally black and nothing happens! This NEVER happened to me with FC 5. Can anyone shine some light on my Situation? Is there something I didnt do right?!?!

try doing :
ps3videomode --h find the one that suits your display and do : ps3videomode -v -XX, xx being the number that suits your display then nano open the file /etc/kboot.conf, and edit the first section "yld" and set the video mode to the one you need, reboot and away you go.

Still nothing. Typing: Startx , Still give me a totally blank screen. I even went into the setting to make it give me a graphical log in. Alas, A Black screen. I even reinstalled.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME! -= Double Post =- NEVER MIND!!! http://www.terrasoftsolutions.com/su...g-3-to-5.shtml You have to download a special RPM to autoconfig YDL into a Graphical interface. Problem solved........ Last edited by admiralriker; 11-30-2006 at 06:59 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

ok. from the text input (Where it says Root@local....Whatever). type: nano
Just the word nano This thing will come up to type. Press CTRL + R A new window will pop up at the bottom and ask what file Type: /etc/inittab It will show the file as a whole in text form. Use the keyboard and scroll to the top and find the part that says ID:3:....whatever and change the 3 to a 5. Press CTRL + X to exit. It will ask y or n to save. Press N. Then it will ask where to copy it to. use the keyboard and select the ETC folder and find intittab in the ETC folder from the file list. Look at the bottom of the screen and it has some commands. One of them is like ^T or something. The ^ button means CTRL. So, Whatever command says to write the file or whatever, Press that combo of buttons. I think it is CTRL+T. Highlight the Inittab file and do the button combo. after you do that stuff, It should shut nano off. Then type REBOOT and it will reboot the system correctly and display the graphical log in. |

Thanks admiralriker! I had the same problem and thought I was doomed to be stuck with a command prompt. You would think Terra Soft would have mentioned this in there installation guide.
To edit the files I typed "vi /etc/inittab". Then I made the correct changes.. I then hit "ESC" on the keyboard and typed ":wq" then "Enter". I also used this method for editing the kboot.config. Quote:
