Default Linux on External Hard Drive?

I just formatted my 100GB USB External Hard Drive in FAT32 and my PS3 finally read it! Now my question is, can Linux be installed on this or does it have to be on the PS3's internal hard drive? I'm pretty sure it's not possible, but it doesn't hurt to ask...

Is it much different than Fedora? The only real Linux I've had experience previously before was Knoppix...even though that was only a LiveDVD.

A new firmware version (1.30) came out today for the PS3. I believe one of the features added is to allow external hard drives to mount on the PS3 so you can back up your internal hard drive before formatting. This may mean you can also run Linux off an external drive. I haven't had the chance to install the new firmware version yet.

you could do a minimal install and just put /root on your ps3's internal as a tiny partition (1gb?) and put your /home directory on the external drive. just a thought.

Highly unlikely for now. I haven't checked the 1.30 changelog so I can't be sure, but I don't think they will do it in the near future.

I don't know if you are responding to my post, but in linux i know you would be able to load files from an external, so you would be able to use that as /home, even if it meant creating another user
