I just formatted my 100GB USB External Hard Drive in FAT32 and my PS3 finally read it! Now my question is, can Linux be installed on this or does it have to be on the PS3's internal hard drive? I'm pretty sure it's not possible, but it doesn't hurt to ask...

A new firmware version (1.30) came out today for the PS3. I believe one of the features added is to allow external hard drives to mount on the PS3 so you can back up your internal hard drive before formatting. This may mean you can also run Linux off an external drive. I haven't had the chance to install the new firmware version yet.
