Hey guys new to this forum and found it yesterday.
I have gone through all the post and have done what they have suggested but I still can't fill the screen on my tv. I have a Sony SXRD 60" 1080p tv it accepts 1080i, 720p and 480i/p I am using HDMI I have tried all the diffrents methods. and tried multiple resolutions. but I still have a black border around the image on my screen. Am I missing something? also when I ad 128 to 3 for 720p I get this weird tiling thing going on where half of the screen is on the other side. if anyone can help me with this it would be must appreciated. Thanks |

Maybee I am not explaining it properly.
I have edited my kboot file and set the ps3mode 131 (128 +3) this makes it overzied on my screen so its not 1:1 res. I have tried ps3mode 3 but it is now to small and has a black border around it. if anyone can help me that would be much appreicited. Thanks |

I had all the same resolution problems. It was due to using FC6 and once I switched to Fedora Core 5 everything started to work fine.

I have the exact same problem. It seems that no one has a solution for this yet. I post this problem earlier and one person replied:
"Sony did this to ensure the displayed picture fits on all tv's (although imho, they were too conservative in their safe zone size). Source code is available for it if you want to play around with it." - (thank you squall_dc) I asked if there was source code available for ps3videomode so what I could change these "safe zones". the reply... "Recompiling ps3videomode would not help. The way to fix up the resolution is to modify the framebuffer driver. Here's the actual source code patch (you'll need to modify the code after applying this patch to set the safe zone/margin you want). If you're not sure how to do this, I wouldn't try it as you could damage your machine. http://patchwork.ozlabs.org/cbe-oss-dev/patch?id=8390 " - (again, thanks squall_dc) This is a bit beyond my technical abilities as of yet, but if you, or someone you know, or any one reading this thread could offer some insight, I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated by many. skerby_d is online now Quote this post in a PM Edit/Delete Message |

I'm pleased to say that I've got my fullscreen resolution tweaked on my old Panasonic HDTV, supporting only 480i/480p/1080i, and with Fedora Core 6. By default in non-fullscreen mode, I had the black bars (as expected), but "fullscreen" resolution was just too oversized. I modified the code (the const ps3fb_res res table) in the PS3 framebuffer driver (drivers/video/ps3fb.c) to add a small margin when in fullscreen 480p. I left the other modes untouched as a fallback in case of problems. After rebuilding the kernel using guesstimates for the border size (I used half of what the border was in non-fullscreen, 36 and 29), my screen was perfect vertically, and still slightly oversized horizontally. Tweaking the x-border value and rebuilding got me to a sweet spot that perfectly fills the screen. Of course, values will vary for different TVs, as hsize/vsize will vary and can typically be changed from factory settings (the joys of manual convergence, argh). 1080i was the same process.
I used the provided 2.6.16 kernel as the base, and patched it to 2.6.16.36, with most config settings kept from the original 2.6.16 build. My next bit of fun is to try and somehow get my craptacular Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard v1.0a working without that painful "input irq status -71 received" infinite loop. It's annoying that it works in GameOS, and that it seems that it doesn't work in general on Linux using USB (the typical solution is to use ps2 cable instead of USB, not an option on a PS3). Hopefully the 2.6.19 or 20 builds of the kernel will solve it, and if not, at least it might be fun building the .20 kernel with the beginnings of builtin PS3 support. Yay. All this just to watch my catalog of DivX/XviD videos. Thanks Sony for the lack of these codecs, or mounting remote drives in your crappy GameOS. At least they're allowing Linux, and I hope they continue to release in Open Source. I'm posting this for those who want to hear if it's worth their time hacking the kernel, and not to teach people Linux. All those "watz thiss linux dood, is it cool?" questions can be sent to your local Recycle Bin. If you're interested in learning Linux, do what everyone else did, and learn off the tons of info on the Web, and best do it on a standard i386 platform. first time poster here. ok i tried ydl. that sucked... i like the gui on fedora better. fd5 worked decent but now im usin fd6. so i install and i get a scrambled gui interface. read some posts and find a solution. i edit the xorg.conf file like the posts say (add a few lines under the device section). reboot and it works like a charm. in the meantime i also edited the inittab.conf file to go to a gui prompt... so here is what happened... when i re-booted my ps3 it went back to the old scrambled gui.. yes i saved the file after it was edited. i edited the initab.conf file so it was almost impossible to go back and edit the xorg.conf file. so for the like 5th time i am re-installing fd6. anyone have any ideas why this may have happened??? tihs is pretty annoying. the last 4 days all i have been doing is installing and re-intsalling fedora. i have a 32inch ilo hdtv. still waiting for my dvi and hdmi cables to come. for the meantime i have to run in standard 480i mode. just wanna have a stable user friendly os to back up my ps3 games( and do a little novelty internetting). $60 a game i better have a copy in case anything happens to the disc.
any help on why fedora did this.... so i can avoid it in the future would be helpful. thanks |
