I just tried booting up Linux since I upgraded to the new 1.30 firmware and now my PS3 won't load YDL. I got a garbled up image of Tux at first and now it's just nothing. The PS3 doesn't even put out a video source. On the bright side I guess I have a backup utility now so I don't have to lose all of the stuff on my HDD, BUT I was hoping not to use it. Anyone else have this problem? -= Double Post =- Update: I just reformated my hdd and reinstalled YDL. Everything worked great until I tried to go back into Linux after playing Resistence. Now it's doing it all over again. I'm installing YDL a 2nd time. Any ideas why it's doing this? Last edited by Nismobeach; 12-07-2006 at 01:15 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Well I can't confirm that it ruins YDL, but I updated to 1.3 then backed up my hdd (good thing too) and tried installing YDL and I couldn't install it. I don't think YDL could recognize my NEW usb keyboard that I bought just to install LINUX. Piece of ka ka. I had to use the "hold the power button for 5 seconds upon power on to reset PS3 to original state." Good news is the backup/restore utility actually works on the PS3

Update:
I reinstalled Linux and so far everything seems to be working normal again. I ended up doing a 25% of a full format (I got bored and cancelled it part way through) and then had Linux reformat it's partition during the install as well. Not the best way, but it seems to have worked.... :/ -= Double Post =- Grrrrrrrr... This is starting to piss me off. It messed up again after playing Resistence for a couple of hours. Now when I boot up YDL, the screen goes blank when it tries to go into X. I can get the text mode to work okay, but I have no GUI. I'm starting to think that Tux/Sony hate me. :\ Last edited by Nismobeach; 12-08-2006 at 12:16 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Update 3:
I reinitialized my PS3 back to factory default settings, did a full format of my HDD last night (which took about 3 hours), and reinstalled YDL. Everything seemed to be fine until 5 minutes ago while I was playing Donkey Kong Country through the snes9x emu. While I was playing the screen blanked out on me again. I could clearly hear to the sound from the game and could manipulate my chracters so I know that Linux didn't crash or anything. I rebooted and (surprisingly) I was able to log back into YDL. Each time I've installed YDL I've done it through the text install as I only have a SD TV atm. Are any other users having similar problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

IMO, the FW update MUST be the culprit because YDL worked perfect prior to installing it and I've reinstalled the OS,formated and repartitioned the drive.etc, etc multiple times. I also don't think that problem is do to a defective PS3 as I've never had the problem occur while using the PS3 OS (which I use more than YDL.) Do any other SD YDL users have their aspect ration set to 16:9 in the PS3 OS? Is anyone else using PS2 component cables to connect their unit to their TV? Would any of that have an impact on YDL display drivers? |

So far everything has been grand since I did the complete (and long) format of the drive. If this thing messes up again I think I might give Fedora Core 6 a go. |
