Default Working Emulators

Hi there. I'm a Linux newb and was wondering if anyone could help list some working emulators for Yellow Dog 5 (for PS3). I was able to get snes9x and snes9express installed and working properly but so far have had issues installing some of the other emulators. I have tried xmame and advancemame. When trying to install the xmame .rpm file I am given a list of dependencies that cannot be resolved, most of which I could search for the proper .rpm for on google and resolve myself but one rtld (GNU_HASH) I can't figure out how to install.

I was also able to install and run advancemame but when I run advancemame I get a "fd: Unsupported in X" video error.

I have tried installing FCE Ultra and FakeNES but have had issues with those as well.

I was able to configure yum to use several depsoitories that seem to be searching for dependant .rpm's when I install but it never seems to actually resolve any. If anyone can provide any insight into installing some of the other emulators that would be greatly appreciated. As I said I am a linux newb so I apologize if I used incorrect terminology in this post. Thanks in advance!

xmame works great, use the gxmame frontend and you get full sound and can scale the games to HD resolution!

You just need to install an rpm from the install disc then add freshrpms to yum.conf.

The rpm is on the install DVD under \YellowDog\RPMS\
1) Then install it after cding to its dir
rpm -Uvh compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-55.fc5.ppc.rpm

2) Add the freshrpms server to yum.conf, then
yum install xmame
yum install xmame-roms
yum install gxmame

Works well for the old games I tested, did you get a controller to work on any emus?

Default Controller

Yes I did get the PS3 controller working in Snes9x via Snes9express. The PS3 pad only works when connected by the usb cable. You power it on using the ps button *after* connecting the usb cable and linux will recognize the pad as \\dev\js0 (I believe). After powering the pad on in USB mode snes9x worked very well but there were a couple of annoyances. It seems you are forced to use the left analog stick instead of the d-pad. Not a huge deal but it would have been nice to have the option. Also, for some reason I could never get snes9x to recognize input from the square button, even though it appeared to be working fine in the snes9express pad config menu. Weird...

Thanks for the tips on xmame I'll give them a shot!

I'm having the same problem getting snes9x to map to the square and x buttons as well.

Any word on how to get a NES emulator in? I've seen the videos (Only things that come up on Google.) but don't know the emulator or how to install it.

Someone should create a master list with links and stuff.

I'm running Fedora Core 5.

The feature to back up games BD games onto the hard drive and play them doesn't exist yet and probably never will for the foreseeable future.

In any case you won't damage the disc if you take care of it.

go to the console and type "snes9express" after the "#" sign or if you have "$" then type "su" first.

I did the full install for fedora core 5, if you are using anything else try installing more packages is my only suggestion or buy a linux book.
