Thanks dude, you kept me from jumping off the cliff. Does it take a long time to install Gentoo? Approximately how long does it take? I followed the faq and it never said how long each step took and I freaked. I am a total noob on linux, and I mean TOTAL.

Gentoo takes approximatively 3 hours to install, maybe more depending on your internet connection unless you already downloaded the stage4 tarball. Basically...

The partitionning is quite fast, takes about 2-3 minutes to do.
Then creating the file system (formatting) takes about 5 to 7 minutes to do.
Downloading the tarball takes has much time it takes you to download 240 megs.
Extracting the tarball may take you a while though, it took me about 20 minutes, if not more.
Then after that, it quite depends on you because it's mostly configurations.

Finally, installing applications really depends on your internet connection since you have to download them first using emerge. If you use emerge without the -G option, also count the compilation time and this is quite variable. I already seen programs that took me an hour or two to install (on my PC, but could happen on the PS3 as well) just because of the compile part.

Hope this help. Good luck.
