Trouble with sound in Debian
I am having problems getting sound to work in Debian distro... I do not know what the problem is, but there is no sound at all. When I try to open an mp3 file in any program, there is no sound. When I try to open a sound file in Totem Movie Player (default that comes w/ this linux) it gives me error that there is no sound output device.
I tried booting up linux with both, component and hdmi cables, none of which are getting sound to work. I tried updating alsa (apt-get install alsa) but it says I have latest version. I tinkered in options with root login but still can't find the problem. I am stumped and don't know what to do next.
Sound works just fine in PS3 OS & my games, but not in Debian... Should I go with Gentoo or something? I have had horrible luck in YDL 5.0 (thanks to 100 different dependencies), so I thought this could be a bit better...
Any suggestions on what I should do?
Thanks in advance.
