Yes you can, in fact, Gentoo ISO is a CD ISO not a DVD ISO (the LiveCD one). Considering it's small size, don't you think it'd be a waste to put about 150 megs on a 4.5 gig DVD ?

In any case, yes, the livecd is a CD ISO so, you can put it on a CD. As for the stage4 tarball, you can either:

1. Download it from your PS3 during your installation
2. Download it from your computer and put it on any USB flash media or if you have the 60 gig PS3, but it on a memory stick or SD card.

oh, one more thing, for the stage4 tarball, if you copy it to a USB Storage device, do you have to put it in a certain folder, for example: PS3/otheros/and that certain file
