Looks like we are not going to get any value out of the PS3 until we can by pass the hypervisor and gain direct access to the RSX. I have seen several people propose the concept of writing a graphics accelerator that runs in the SPE's so you don't need to use the frame buffer for high speed graphics.
Does anyone know if this is feasable and if so what type of performance we could anticipate .

Its surely feasable as IBM have done a great presentation about doing real time raycasting in 720p by using just the cell alone (no 3d cards).
