Default Problem installing Gentoo on PS3

I've got the disc to run and it shows the penguins with all the code. Then it gets to a point where it says DHCP with a [!!] beside it. It more or less says that it couldnt find DHCP. It then goes on to load USB drivers and then goes to a black screen where it just sits.

How do I get the DHCP to work? Every thing in my house including my PS3 can get online. We even dropped the MAC filter on the router but that didnt help.

What should I do?

Are you trying to connect using the built-in wifi? If so that's not yet supported.

I dont have a clue. All i know is that the How To page says this:

Press Enter to boot the Gentoo kernel - It will boot and configure networking and other settings automatically. Make sure you have a DHCP server on your network (Router or another PC which is sharing the internet connection)

When my PS3 boots up with the disc I dont have to press Enter or anything, it just goes. Then it gets to the part about DHCP and it has some kind of error. Then it loads USB drivers and then blank screen.

I never do see the livecd ~ # prompt which the how to says comes next.

I was wondering: is it supposed to go to that blank screen? the how to says nothing about that so I'm thinking no.

If you need a screen shot of whats happening I can take pictures.

Ok I just went into the PS3 and set its online to Wired and plugged in a wirelles internet adapter I used to use for my PS2. It connected online so it worked. I then booted Linux to see if this would help. It at first seemed to because i never saw the [!!] error for DHCP. But guess what... It still went and ran the USB drivers for about 5-10 minutes, and then proceeded to a blank black screen. No penguins, no code, just black.

WTF is going on with this installation?

I'm assuming you have a keyboard and mouse plugged in?

If so, how is your video hooked up? (HDMI, component, etc)
And what resolution is your tv? (480i, 480p, 720p, etc)

Its wired in Component and my TV is a 720p LCD that also accepts 480p, 480i and 1080i. My PS3 display settings are set to accept 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i.

I have a USB keyboard plugged in. I dont have a mouse of any kind plugged in. Cant believe I didnt percieve this as a problem. Should I grab the USB mouse from my PC and plug it in and give it another go?

I can't imagine that not having a mouse hooked up would prevent the command line prompt from appearing. I'm fairly new at this Gentoo stuff as well, but my install went almost problem free. If I were you I'd look over the HOW-TO and make sure you did every step completely, and if so, maybe try restarting the entire process. (unless someone else comes up with an idea of what might be wrong)

I tried it with the mouse plugged in and it didnt help. I also tried it with the resolution down to 480i and that didnt help either.

When the network adapter is being used the DHCP works fine and finds its IP address. So I guess the onboard wifi isnt supported.

But I'm still getting the black screen with no prompt of any kind. I really dont want to redo this whole thing. If theres no way to fix this then I'm reformatting and never looking at Linux again.
