Default Help editing files after installation

Gentoo installation was fine, but i forgot to edit my resolution, when i change the kboot.conf file, i press ctrl x, but then when i want to save it, it says that it is a read only system. Is there a way to change that?

Before you open the file, make sure you are opening it as root.

I typed su for superuser before opening it, and still the same error.

If you're root and using vi, then

ESCAPE
:w!
saves the file changes anyway. You chould also, as root,

chmod 666 /etc/kboot.conf

which would eliminate the complaint entirely.
