Default Okay! ......Did I just brick my ps3?!!

So i decided to try to install Gentoo on my ps3. In the middle of installation (I was at the typing part were it tells you to install tar through the net) then boom....my power goes off at my house. I got destracted by something going on in my house and went to do something else. Like an idiot, I changed my mind that before I want to install I want to a new hard drive. It came (a Toshiba 120gb) and took out my old and installed the new. Now when I turn the power on it goes on just fine but....nothing on the tv....Nothing! And i know its not a issue with my tv or what kind of hook up I am using (I usually go with component) I tried switching to HDMI which worked fine for a picture before with a ps3 and still nothing. None of my hook ups work. I haven't tried composite or standard but I don't think that will work either. I was using my component cables at 720p when installing Gentoo.

Have I completely ruined my ps3? I hope I can at least have them service it.

Hold the power on button after turning on the PS3. It restores it to factory settings and it will boot into the XMB at start up.

If your power went out during the install that might be your problem. If it is fryed then talk to Sony about it, I havent personally installed linux yet so I cant give you the best answer.

/\ well there you go.

Hmmm....I think I already did try to hold my power to turn it off when it did this.

I held it...it beeped once and I kept holding it till it turned off. Maybe I should let it beep once and wait?

My bet is that you're still in other OS mode and that the PS3 OS boot will solve it, but the best thing I can say is: Just don't open the main casing. Changing the hard drive is fine, but you probably know that moding the PS3 or opening the case will void the warranty. Worst case scenario, you could send in your PS3 to Sony Hardware Repair in Texas and they'll fix it for a small (er than buying a new) price. I did this with my PSP and I was glad I hadn't messed with the innards (something I'm usually inclined to do). Good luck. I'd hate to hear that your system is completely inoperable.

If it was fried it mostly likely was caused by the power outage and most home insurance policy plans should cover it.

Sony has a specific feature to allow you to install another OS. They would not have this if it was buggy or if they thought you shouldn't use it.

Anyways, the power outage was most likely what caused the problem...

YOU CANNOT BRICK YOUR PS3 THROUGH LINUX....

just do what they are telling you to restore factoyy settings and sony will also help you on the phone...

Linux has nothing to do with the game OS of the system and linux cannot effect the game OS in any way....
