Dude its not the DVD, if it boots saying no partition found its because you did not format one for it.
To do so: On the PS3 OS 1. Select: Settings ==> System Settings ==> Format Utility ==> Format Hard Disk ==> Yes WARNING THIS DELETES ALL MEMORY ON PS3 BACKUP EVERYTHING IMPORTANT FIRST! 2. Then select a partition setting for the hard disk: Custom 3. You are presented with option to "Allot 10GB to the Other OS" or "Allot 10GB to the PS3 System." Allocating the majority for YDL (Other OS) is recommended, independent of the size of your drive. 4. Select Quick Format and "Yes". Your PS3 will now format its internal drive. 5. Press "X" on the controller to EXIT which will cause your PS3 to reboot. |

In the first post it says "If after you run YDL, and you are on the command line, not the GUI, go to this website" but that link is broken. If you're using a standard def television and you're stuck at the command line, here is what you should do. With an ethernet cable attached, type
Xautoconfighit Enter, now type nano /etc/kboot.confhit Enter (or replace "nano" with a text editor of your preference), this will open the text editor, change the line id:3:initdefault:to id:5:initdefault:press CTRL+X, hit Y for Yes, hit Enter to confirm the file name. Now when you reboot, you should go to the GUI automatically.
