"Whitehouse also said that the Microsoft Xbox 360 is more secure than the Nintendo Wii and Sony PlayStation 3 due to the security implemented in every 360 game and piece of software."
PS3 - Hacked (PS2 backups via hardware mod)
Wii - Hacked (Modchips I think)
360 - Hacked (Flashing the DVD drive)
And how is the 360 is more secure?
They are talking utter bull.
The 360's security is still in tact. You can't only run identical copies of games on it, no unsigned code.
You can't run unsigned code on PS3.Originally Posted by Ciaran_

Wich is just a home made Kboot wich sony allows.
And I think the Wii can't run unsigned code too.
None of the stated consoles have run unsigned code as of yet, but all have different methods of bypassing atleast something on the system, so i don't know why they had to say the 360 is more secure seeing as it was the first out of the 3 to be hacked and able to play freakin backups. *cough*Xbots*cough*
It just who the public believes. Well, in the event it actually cares first.
Well, for those of you lacking reading comprehension, when they say 360 is more secure then PS3/Wii, they are talking strictly about internet abuse.
Symantec doesn't care if a system to run backups or not. Their buisness is internet exploits and virii.
Now since both Wii and PS3 have the ability to access the "general" internet, and both carry a specific kernel of a type of browser. Then yes, they are MUCH more open to attack/abuse then a 360....which only access XBL live, which is a closed off portion of the internet.
Not only can PS3 and Wii be hit by Phishing (webpages that look like legit wepages and steal your info), they could be hit by oldschool attacks on your connection like DDOS.....if you are on IRC through linux it's quite easy to get your IP and initiate it.
Theeen, now with fanboys and such out there, some people with too much time may take a look at the version of Opera that Wii is running and program virii specifically for that....same goes for linux on PS3.....they could even look into the web kernel that the PS3 browser uses and base viruses off that....
None of which can be done on the 360, regarldess of whether it can load backups or not....
ok....im just going to take the time to say this..................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... ......................... .................who cares!
And i'm just going to say...meh!
I highly doubt a virus is going to be developed to attack PS3 systems over the internet
just dont browse the internet on a gaming console then

never gonna happen pal...Originally Posted by EminentJonFrost
Well, seriously. Internet virii may be a threat. But not of a stature that we need people worrying about it. Phishing sites, lets face it, are for the plain idiotic, and virus' specifically written for the PS3 internet browser's web kernel are highly unlikely due to the fact that most people with enough ability to create such things, are probably using their talents to try to find ways to better the PS3. Through linux, iso booting and the like.Originally Posted by Shatterdome

Finally, who trusts Symantec anyway?

Virii ? is it not Viruses?

Anyways, I think the possibility of it happening are small. But the fact remains, that technically, the PS3/Wii are more insecure then 360.....and that symantec is valid in that claim.

And you all you saying none of them have run unsigned code you're wrong.
A modded Wii will play GC homebrew.

And a 360 on an older kernel can run Linux.
And a PS3 can run PS2 homebrew, using the Swap Magic disc.

And as a previous poster stated, they are speaking on terms of internet safety, which of course is Symantec's business. Why do you people doubt a virus being made for Wii's opera? For all we know Symantec may make the virus's and then release software for the wii just to repair it!
It's still a theory I have, that the anti-virus companies pay outside consultants to create virus's to generate business.
To surrender to ignorance and call it God has always been premature, and it remains premature today.
