Good news for those just dying for a shot at virtual lounging around and furniture collection: The PSN's senior director, Susan Panico, has told the Official PlayStation mag that Sony will be "opening up the Home beta to the public very soon". Up til now Home's only been accessible to a select few early beta testers, so this is welcome news for the rest of us plebs, especially in the wake of Warhawk's freshly-added Home content. Before you ask, yes, that's pretty much all she said. No further details - such as a timeframe or whether this means North America and Europe - were revealed.

In game XMB should've been out last year, same as Home. Sony are just ****ing every one around by releasing more and more frimware updates without what everyone wants in them.

Yeah that's why very soon is in "". Very soon with Sony could mean anything.

Only BETA I'm psyched up for is the MGS4 beta (which I have)

Ok, I can't stop boasting about it but it IS that cool. And HOME looks like total ****. Can't they spend their development money on the in-game XMB?

My care factor for Home last year = much.

My care factor for Home now = none.

Sure, Ill still join the public beta, but they've been screwing us around for so long now, I couldn't care less when it's released.

Could not disagree more. You see were sitting here discussing its release and people are getting upset its not already out. Thats exactly what hype is and they do so they dont "suck" at it, even if they mess around with people. All thats doing is creating more buzz for the product, in this case Home. Which I could careless about atm.

I don't think there is a correct answer for this.

But i'm sure people are with me when I say that most of us were mad happy about Home "coming soon".. Then a few months later, "coming soon" Now I just give up and can't be bothered with them anymore.

Yep, those come first, besides, Home is just going to be..... another Second Life. So it may be interesting in the fact that it has easy game partying(multiple starting a game of Warhawk at the same time), but all it is, is another branch of their community.

I'd rather get a playable demo for MGS in the next store update, I don't know how many times I played the first game's demo for PS1 before I got the game itself....

Yeah, I'm looking forward to GTA4, MGS4, Little Big Planet and Tekken 6 too. But I'm still looking forward to Home. It looks pretty cool.

i think that Home will be cool for a few hours, and then it will get boring. why is sony unable to give what people want more, like in game xmb or more games?

Incompetence and arrogance... They had a year between the 360's launch, and their launch... There's no reason their software shouldn't do what MS's does, if it doesn't do it better.

They got complacent because of the PS2, and they're paying for it now. The fact that the PS3 didn't have In-Game XMB at launch is a joke, especially since they had a year to copy it from MS.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. Sony is on the cusp of passing the 360, but they're not seizing it.

They've got a awe-inspiring line up this year, yet their doing nothing to raise awareness. Last year, Microsoft had a 360 advert going on every 5 minutes when they had a big launch, Sony need to follow suit.

They NEED to secure a deal with Rockstar for GTAIV DLC. Its a make or break for Sony this year.

I'm sure when they hammer ingamexmb, Home and get GTAIV+MGS4 out. They should start catching up.

That's not quite what I meant...

What I actually meant, is that all of the reasons the PS3 is worse than the 360 are easy to fix. I'm not gonna cite the weak line-up, since that can only be fixed (and will be fixed) with time.

But I don't think people understand what in-game XMB would provide to Sony's platform. Not only would/could this provide PS3 users with instant in-game massaging via the PS button and in-game sountracks, but it would put PSN on par with Xbox live.

Being somebody who has both consoles, the difference is so huge, and it's something that's so simple to fix. The thing that makes the 360 so great, is the fact that, say, I'm playing Cod4, and Abe logs on... When the little bubble pops up, I just press the guide button, and I get prompted with a blade that has everything I need. "Send Invite", "Send Message" and "Send Chat Invite"... And no matter what I choose to send, I can be guarenteed that he'll recieve it, and be able to respond as soon as he gets it.

Compare that with the PS3, where I have to be playing a game that has all these features in game, which I can't access by pressing the PS button, and when I send what ever I send, I have to hope Abe (or whoever) is playing soemthing that has these features, or that he's willing to quit out of what ever he doing to read my message.

In-Game XMB would fix that immediately.

And that is the only difference between XBL and PSN. And one simple feature would put the services on par. I mean, seriously, there's nothing about MS's XBL "Service", that is all that special... It's the software. And that's not hard to copy.

Now, something that's a little more personal to me, the controller... They took what was the best controller ever (Dual Shock 2), and gimped it 2 times with the retarded "triggers", and the lack of rumble. Sony decided to give us what should have been there in the first place (rumble) so I'm willing to meet them half-way with the triggers.

Now, the fact that after spending $500 ($600 for me, since I bought it almost a year ago) on a console, you still have to spend $65 just to get a decent controller is absolutely rediculous, but I'm willing to forgive.

And that's it... At that point, it's just about game preferance. But Sony is dragging it's heels so slowly, it's maddening.

As for the triggers, you can get the plastic add-ons free with the PSM3 magazines last issue. Or you can get them for pretty cheap from your local gamestore. Their called "Gioteck Non-Slip Trigger Enhancement". Its literally a plastic piece that slips over the existing buttons, to make it just like that that you linked to above.

Saves you from paying $60.

1) They don't sell PSM3 in the US... It's a UK only magazine...

2) I still have to spend $55 for a DS3 since I only have a Sixaxis... So $55 (DS3) + $10 (Trigger grips) = $65...

Yes, but are they what you wanted? Sure, Sony puts out a lot of useful updates, but very rarely do they give you what you actually want.

Home will be absolutely AMAZING!!!....for people have no freinds in real life and want to sit in an armchair pretending to be "cool" online

for normal people it'll be alright i think - i mean you can share movies/play bowling thats about all i can see me using it for (i'll probs end up making a room tho lol)

as for DFS' complaints about the controller: I actually really like the triggers and the lack of rumble. The triggers are great when used properly - CoD4 for grenades = good motorstorm for acceleration = much better than x/square then some stupid games use R2 for fire... then it just sucks. I never really liked rumble and then using a psp instead of ps2 for a year or so i got so used to it not being there i could never go back to using rumble.

Props man.....one of the first substantial and well worded posts of the thread.

When the PS3 launched.....it should have dominated the 360 out of the box with no questions asked. Sony had time to either semi copy the 360s features....or improve on them and make their own, and yet, they didnt.
