Default [WIP] LuaX (Alpha released)

This will be the work-in-progress thread for LuaX. For those of you who dont know what LuaX is, it will be the mainframe for LuaOS².

Unlike my other programs, LuaX will be open beta, so you can download builds when they come out. Alpha 002 is ready to be downloaded. Front page bloggers, please note that I dont want any part of this program on the front page until the final release.

You can read more about it and get the future builds here: http://youresam.com/LuaX/
Rough draft documentation is up.

Screenshot of the current progress:

What is expected for the release of LuaOS²:
*Fully featured multitasking lua shell
*Interchangable "Mac dock" and "Windows bar"
*Interchangable alt-tab from the Mac and the "Vista flip3d"
*3D cube to switch enviroments (example)
*Sample apps (for now, planned "paint" and "billion"[aim clone])

So yeah, tell me what you think. My goal is to be better than this.

Awesome! It looks like the Mac OS X GUI (the dock, 3D cube). I would love to know how you did the genie effect for the minimizing.

I also like the transparent windows... Drawn with GU using an alpha channel?

I used the GU while minimizing the windows, which does support alpha. (Its sceGuCopyImage or whatever that doesnt)

Very nice work, I hope this looks like a lot of fun. It would also be cool if you could put icons in the dock, that would be cool! Maybe a little settings bar on top...... Anyways very nice. Sorry about my English I'm from America.....

Or created as images with transparency. Anyways, looks good, I'll probably play around with it one day if I get bored.

Yeah, LuaX_statusbar_addObject lets you do that, real simple (Thats what the 3 "hi" icons are)
Or if you mean drag and drop icons from the desktop, I'm thinking of supporting that.

I suggest you use the ttf lib any thing is better than that orignal font you get.

Looks awesome Youresam, hope it all goes well!

By the way, I don't think Ys-OS was ever finished, meaning nothing.

How much RAM does loading a custom font use?

The only image that [should] ever be loaded is the background, so of course you can change that.

Not much RAM at all, but (as I said earlier), it takes up too much CPU. Currently LuaX is running at 60FPS, if I was to use TTF, I could be looking at 20-30FPS.

I meant how much cpu.

It causes that much of a slowdown? Wow, that's a lot

Its an estimate. I remember a while back making a PSP RPG and used TTFs, it was so slow that it froze my computer while USB was plugged in because it couldnt respond fast enough.

it makes every thing just crawl along.

an equivelint to the computer slowing down that much would be to play the Pwad for doom called nuts.wad,

woah! tried out the alpha!

This is looking great!

reminds me of PLOX, heck if all lua felt and looked this good, there wouldn't be so much LUA VS C++ stuff.

great work!

your gonna hate hearing this, but you should incorperate a flasher :P

haha, i mean it should be one of the apps that can be run by your shell haha, (its kind've ironic because you absolutely hate LUA flashing,) i just think it'd be convenient.

Don't take it too seriously!

I was working on the mac dock just now, and uploaded another build, if anyone cares. I havent updated the clicking code or finished the dock BG code, but its still functionable
Note that the dock isnt perfect, as in when you move your mouse to an icon, it might be off by a few pixels when it zooms in. But hey, I'm just glad I got it working

Have a flag to allow writing to hte flash devices, and to flip this flag on/off, have a control panel type deal allowing you to edit the main functinality of hte shell (kind of like regedit on windows)
