After many months of releasing nothing, I finally reinstalled the toolchain and coded a little game based on my experimentation with my new game engine. It is poorly optimized at the moment but this game seems to work well enough.
The goal of the game is simple--shoot at the evil frog demon thingys before they try to maul you. Each monster you kill earns 100 points. I tried to mimic the aiming system of a first person shooter within a top-downish isometric 2d world. So, the analog stick controls the player movement and aim, and the L trigger is for strafing. The cross (X) button fires.
The camera scrolls smoothly across the map wherever the player goes. The map and graphics can be edited: all gfx are stored in the png format and the map is stored in ASCII.
Feel free to mod the game and re-release (this means you JEMdev). It will make a much more fun demo when it has a better theme. (Not lame blue hair kid shooting fire at mutated frogs.) I can imagine all sorts of humorous mods but I lack the artistic skill and sense of humor to bring them into existence.
The game is written in C++ and does not require LUA player. The installation is nothing complicated.
The map is very moddable, supporting custom tiles and images.
Anyway, here is the link:
