Default Ok I'm a programing newb, I'd love for someone to take me under there wing?

Like the topic title says I"d like someone to teach me, one on one. I have a Goal... my goal is to pick up where the SNES emulator left off. I just need someone to help me get started, I'll eventually learn enough to do this on my own. But for now I want some help to start off, I looked at the stickies and I"m a little confused.

Here my PC
Windos XP Media Center 2005 Edition
700GB of hard disk space
2GB of Ram
Nvidia 7300
Intel Core to Duo Viit technology.

Thats my PC setup, now I"m willing to install whatever I need to with moderate risk. I once Programed a simple text based game in C++ but that took my quite a while, I lost all my work on my old PC (hard drive crashed and one hell of a virus) so I don't know where to start again. I programed in C++ for my PC tough. So anyone willing to help me out and explain some of the basics?

For now I know Lua is the most accesible and easiest to use for newbs has alot of support for 2D game with very little 3D access.

C++ is harder to program with but you can do much more with it. So I know a little bit about both. I'd love some help if any one is willing to provide it.

If your willing to take me up on my offer I'm usually online with MSN
rubsnick@hotmail.com

Sorry if this is not the correct forum to post this in.

If that's really what you want to do, you have a long way ahead of you. Start with something small, and gradually work your way up to something big. You'll be overwhelmed if you do something big first.

Thats what I'm gonna do, Make a simple homebrew game here and there, make a couple apps there and then when I feel good and ready learn about emulators and how to make one and then play aroudn with the Source Code. I know that it will take me a ton of time but still I wanna make my future around programin better start now.

He means that it'll take a lot of time to accomplish your goals, and that if you want to have a future in programming, you'd best start as soon as possible.

psp isn't hard i started in flash(pc) went to lua(psp obviously) then to c/c++ on psp.

also don't expect any1 to "take you under their wing"

ask questions don't ask for 1 person to completly help as they may not always be right

700 GB == 175x bigger than mine...

I started programming for the PSP. In lua, small crappy stuff when i didnt have a computer (only a text editor on my psp). When i got a computer for christmas, i started C (look at the C/C++ Help thread first post for when i started programming in C).

I program in a lot of things: C++/Visual Basic/Assembler(well, I know it a little), PHP, Javascript. From what I hear LUA is a good language to start. I know how to code for PSP because most of the code is the same, so...But emulators are not exactly easy. It involves TONS and TONS of assembler code. Otherwise it'll be slow. That's a hard as hell language too...But stick with the basics: LUA.

Default To the last two posts

I'm not saying this is the facts, but to the last two posts. I did not mean to make the emulator in LUA, just to start learning code in it. I admit it sounds like I was saying to make it in LUA...Clearing the air in any case.

Yea, that's about how much i have on my desktop (Windows XP, 2003). Actually, i have 25GB in my local disk. I can partition my hard drive and make a new volume with 50GB. I have about 75GB on my computer (it speeds computer a lot of you leave your memory at 25gb and not partition the rest into a new volume). Anyways, i thought it was on topic since the first post mentions this.
