Default PokemonRPG (Soon To Go MMO!!!) Official Thread! [TheGr34t3stSilenceOfMilk, 2007!]

OMG! After a long wait, the release thread is here, of the Pokemon Port for PSP by the newly formed dev team, TheGr34t3stSilenceOfMilk! The beta, however, is not here yet. The beta version, released soon, will include:

~ 100 NEW pokemon, maybe more, we shall see...
~ A real name... This name is not the release name.
~ At least 40 moves, FROM SCRATCH!
~ Custom Maps, CUSTOMIZABLE TOO! JUST LIKE SMM!!!
~ Hidden surpises, which you will find hilarious, and growing in comediac style every release..
~ Cool music.
~ GFX from Gr34t3st!

THE BETA WILL NOT INCLUDE:

~ MMO, we still must learn how to do that. lol. :P
~ the other 3/4 pokemon that will be in the first real release...
~ All of the moves

The Beta's release date is set for: NOT SET YET.

That is not a beta release. Hell, that is barely an alpha considering it is missing the MMO. At best, it is a indication of gameplay.

You have to design the software (not game, software) round the fact that this will be a networked game. This will affect all the low level parts of the engine such as the game information structure, event subsystems and entity interactions. Making a game then trying to retrofit a MMO componment onto it will be a stupidly hard task since very little of the engine was designed to send/recieve information via network and act upon it.

In short, right from the start, make sure the software design is at least looked at by someone who has done at least some networking programming.

What I mean by beta is the beta of the actual game, the MMO capabilities will take on the project and change the name eventually. Atm, this is... Well, pretty much a demo at most when it's released.

I do because I am fed up of seeing these terms used incorrectly acrosss this forum. The OP asked for suggestion, one of mine was to not call it a Beta with that feature set that was in the first post as it gives the wrong impression of the state of the game.

The other suggestion looks like it has gone unnoticed in regards to making sure that the subsystems needed to communicate across a network needs to be done right first time as retro-fitting it AFTER the game is completed (where all the gameplay logic is built on top of and depend on these subsystems), it becomes a complete nightmare refractoring the system while keeping the game intact.

Another possible problem is the fact you are using Lua judging by Gr34t3st signature.

I would suggest just making a MO rather then a MMO as the networking complexity is a lot lower and only support something like 32 users per server. This also means that NetLib is already suitable for your needs.

Did I really deserve the spam in this thread? Should I just lock until the release and then bump this thread all the way from page 69 to 1? Didn't think so. Now that I have made this thread I trust it will stay bumped with encouraging comments, lol, sounds cools, and I can't waits. Is that really too much to ask? This is not bogus, I have the work so far right in front of me. If you don't trust Freshmilk, Gr34t3st, and I then gtfo of this thread and let me run a nice dev encouraging thread. Freshmilk warned me this would happen and that at least 7 people would this this is bogus. Well I have news for you, IT ISNT. I just wanted to speak up about the project because the initial idea was to keep it secret until the public release. If you cant respect me for giving you all that privelige then you don't deserve to have it. Now can we start over, with a spam free, nice, encouraging thread? Will a mod clear all this spam up?

cant wait for this game.........will it have pokemon from diamond and pearl or are they completly new...........regardless good luck this looks really promising
