Default [Idea] To all you game developers..

After reading a bit about the original creator of the Halo demo for the PSP, and how microsoft contacted him about legal rights, I thought about something.

What if, just an if, the same creator could make something that's only similar to Halo and it's surrounding gameplay and characters. I'm saying if there could be a creation of a homebrew that's just something like halo, with 3 dimensional graphics, and the title could be called something similar off of Halo, like "Halord" (amateur name, of course)

You know where I'm getting at? It could be really big, and most likely would avoid getting in any trouble because it isn't actually based on a copyrighted game.

Just my voice on homebrew..

Do you have any idea how much harder to code a 3d game on a PSP is compared to say a PC? Obviously not as the PSP has an OpenGL implementation (PSPGL), Irrlicht 1.0 implementation (LTE engine) and the native graphics utility (pretty close OpenGL calls/structuring so conversion between the two isn't too hard). I'm sure there are more as well (Raptor 3d?).

Anyways, towards the main topic question:

No, the name of the game has a copyright, but so does all the content used in it (models, textures, sahders, etc.) so using any of those without Microsoft's (or is it Bungie's?) consent or license or w/e, is illegal.

Don't get your hopes down however, as many games are re-made despite the copyright (zelda by far the most popular). Just give it time If all else fails, they could swap the copyrighted models, textures, etc. with non-copyrighted models, textures, etc.

Well in a response to the people who have ask the question "do you know how hard it is to make 3D homebrew", here is my feedback.

First off I do realize how hard it is, and just remember, it was just a "what-if" question. The guy I was referring to, which was the original creator of the "Halo for PSP" homebrew, mentioned that he actually enjoyed making codes and such, and that Halo for the PSP was actually fun to make.

I just wanted it to be mentioned that he could always come back into the Homebrew scene and at least give some thought about doing something like that, again.

Everyone has the ability to make a 3d game easy to develop given time to gain experience. Most PSP developers are just starting out developing for the PSP, hence the lack of 3d games as they can't be developed easily as they lack the experience. Even still, commercial games take year(s) to develop, and most people aren't looking for such commitment (without pay )

Stop worrying about Halo, port Half-life over first . Use the doom engine and port it over. They're gonna port Quake 2 soon anyhow....

Falo did get work done. The first level did get done. I was going to beta test it too. But PSPHax0r9 and youresam who were helping Twenty 2 develop it haven't had much contact with Twenty 2 in months.

So you say you were going to test it, but couldn't, so we only have your word given to you by the people developing it. Not such a hot hunk of proof :-\

The guy who said they are going to port Quake 2 - it's already been done (privatly released however, you needed to test McZonk's new multiplayer implementation, i think the request for testers is done though)
