Default [WIP] Kickflip World 3D Skateboarding

Team Sushi consisting of: HardHat, PSPJunkie, Meyitzo and Mark G aka Fatcat have been working on another 3D game, and we're bubbling to share a little bit of what we've done so far.

Attached are some screenshots of the skateboard moving around the skatepark running on the PSP. The skater model is nearly done, and we expect to have game play working in about a week.

The game engine is a progression from the subway preview that was included in the game Last Call from the GBAX compo. It includes: lighting, textured and untextured models, Wavefront OBJ importer and soon will have MD5 (Quake 4) model support replacing the MD2 and MD3 support which we previously implemented.

For these screenshots, there are no display optimizations, so I expect that there will be both speed ups and slow downs as optimizations and features are added.

The planned release will allow both mission based challenges and free style skating, and offer the ability to customize the skater, and even mod the skateboard yourself.

For more pics, you can check out my blog.

Looks promising Hardhat! In those screenshots, do you have gravity and collision implemented?

are you keeping the FPS at 30, or 60? Md5 will have to be done very nicely, since your fps is already half the refresh rate.

looks good though, much better than any non-professional skating game ive seen.

There are lots of things that will move the FPS up or down. In development I usualy don't overclock the PSP. In these screenshots I didn't have any textures swizzled or in vram. So there is lots to do that could potientially speed it up.

I can also use triangle strips, mipmaps, 256 colour textures, and many other tricks to speed up the textures. Untextured, it is a solid 60 fps without overclocking.

made me eat my words

putting textures in VRAM alone will give you a 10-20 FPS boost (assuming you are putting lareger textures in the VRAM)

good luck
