Exclamation [Alpha]WoWPSP

I am getting ready release the first version of WoWPSP. WoWPSP is a 2-D version of World of Warcraft coded in LUA. Hopefully by the time I reach BETA you will be able to go online and play with other users.
ALPHA Specs:
Scrolling maps (only 2 areas, working on better scrolling system) maybe
1 quest (PM me ideas for quests)
3 Buildings
Simple shop
1 option (music on/off)
Selection between 2 characters (Character selection does not affect game play besides attacks and player image)
I would say I am approximately 65% complete.(I will update the percentage up until the first release)
These are some of the things that might be included in the alpha release. It should be finished in about 2 weeks or less.
If you have a suggestion for the game please post about it below and I will see if it is within my grasp of coding.

Just so I don't have to keep stating this, It WILL be a MMO which means online!

65%? And you only have 2 maps? I'd say that's about 15%. Only release it when you have 20+ maps - the last thing we need is another RPG Proof-of-concept that will get dropped after less than a month.

But... 3 maps? When do you plan to release it? Are the maps easy to be created? Maybe if it accepts custom maps that are easy to be created, you don't even need to bother with maps creation.

Forget the missing maps or that it's 2D. I think the biggest challenge would have to be making it online and MMO. I don't know how you do networking with LUA but doesn't seem like it will do much on the PSP.

It would be stupid for Blizzard to send a C&D for this, though. When Halo Zero got released, Bungie just appreciated the work of the fans.

The "psx version" was Warcraft II. Warcraft, Warcraft II, and Warcraft III are all strategy games while World of Warcraft is an (MMO)RPG. It would be kind of strange to tell people who wants a RPG to get a strategy game.

I have decided that most of you are right, even though you were harsh you are right, I will be expanding the amount of maps and the map sizes.
Don't expect anything fancy for the map scrolling for I have just started coding.
There will still only be 1 store.
Still only 3 or 4 buildings.

Putting it online seems pretty simple to me, all I need to do is have a player upload his stats, X and Y position, Map, and username then have other PSP's blit players that are in the same map as them.

Thanks for the comments but try not to be so harsh.

Why? This is just a 'real' developer forum, we don't always need the best stuff, we just don't want too much announcements of things that are far from finished. If everyone would do that, this whole forum would be full of announcements.

Honestly, I think you're being a bit overly critical of the comments. First off, many are skeptical. How are you going to make an MMO on the PSP. Have you thought about servers yet? Or is it not an MMO.

Secondly, saying that you have it working isn't enough these days, a few screenshots would be nice.

Next, we can't help you come up with quests without playing ANY of the game. It makes it a bit hard, not knowing the story line, or the character classes, or how the maps are laid out, or how advanced the game is.

Lastly, you can't call it WoW for licensing issues, and you can't use any of the terms from the game. In fact, if you did, it couldn't be hosted here anyway because of these licensing issues, so I hope you reconsider that too


If you want this thread closed, go ahead and PM me. Heck, if you want to discuss this, PM me, I'm always happy to talk. I just hope you reconsider. Even though these comments may be a bit... harsh... you can take them for what they're worth and try to improve your game. Or, you can pout and decide not to release it here, and not get a lot more exposure of your game to the scene. It's your choice.

Good that Hardrive caught the original posted post. The first is a dead giveaway. He won't release this. The thought of starting off coding and to begin your first (few) projects as an MMO would be near impossible.

Umm... It is going to be a MMO but I am nowhere near making it online that feature should come in the beta which won't be for a long time.

This isn't exactly my first project, it's my second, my first project was the LUA game menu (I am sure none of you heard of it because no one bothered to post on the forum). I wanted to create something that will really affect the way the homebrew community thinks about LUA games. I don't think it's an impossible feat, I think it would be quite easy to make an MMO in LUA you just need to know what your doing.

I wouldn't consider myself a beginner, I have been able to learn LUA quite easily during the past 4 months and I hope to learn more in the future. Besides I plan on this project taking a long time and creating smaller games while working on this one.

Actually, if you were in the scene for at least 2 weeks, you'd know that a_noob is not really a Noob, it's just his nickname.

Also, if you want to stick to your idea, go for it, but don't ever come here talking about a project that has barelly started and get angry with negative responses

Do something fisrt, even if it shows a small progress, and then show it to us. That's the way we can help ya, and that's the way we can give you advices and some feed back.

I know he's not a noob and I am trying to reach my goals before releasing then I will release small updates on how everything is going and occasionally downloads.
