Well you know those 4 colored stripes on resistors? They basically tell you the resistance (+tolerance) of the resistor. This program basically lets you adjust the colors and tells you the resistance. Pretty handy so that you don't have to memorize what each color represents.

Just checked it out against some common values I know off hand
10K, 1K, 470 R, all verify ok. You wouldn't want a bug in this program :O

I've used an online resistor value calculator through a PSP browser
over wifi in my work room (same graphics I think), so be assured that this will be well used

Looks like I'm not the only electronics hobbist over here. What kind of microprocessor do you guys use?

Cheers

Microchip pics of all shapes and sizes over here. Have hardly paid for any of them

Can't beat RISC assembler.. better than any PSP programming.

Sweet talk the samples rep and they do send to countries that are
usually excluded by policy.

Once I got talking to my rep, and showing him how I was promoting their product
with free projects posted on the net (similar to the way the PSP scene works),
they started giving me whatever I wanted.
Art.

PS. this pic only includes gifts from one company Dallas Maxim IC is another.

Art,

I also get some freebies every now and then. Most of my IC's are freebies actually. Except for the micro processors. I used to be like you, using any kind of pic, but then I found out picaxe. It's a tiny microprocessor from rev-ed. It's very powerfull and really easy to implement.
The language couldn't be easier (Basic). I love basic. It's like pseudo-code, except that it actually works

I've been using picaxes for a while now. I do pay for them, but the prices are so dirty cheap.

Ahh I don't work for them, just in case you're wondering why I'm so excited about the product

Where do you actually post your project samples on the web?

Cheers

Picaxe MCUs are pics with propietry libraries as I understand.
So is the BASIC stamp, and BASIC stamp II.
It's the same hardware.

You could get the usual pics and use a BASIC compiler with them.
I started out with Pic BASIC Pro, but eventually, inline asm crept in,
and then took over my programming completely.

I post projects on my own site:
http://www.freewebs.com/defxev/electronics.htm
and a technology forum I moderate.
Haven't done anything of this sort since I got a PSP and got lazy though.

I learned how to use the BASIC stamp in class, then the Arduino. If I understand correctly you can use the replace the Arduino's atmega32 chip and use it anywhere else you want. I prefer the syntax structure from using Arduino, as it's closer to C.

There's a PIC BASIC pro stamp? Isn't that like PICAXE?

Pic BASIC pro is a BASIC compiler that generates asm code for ordinary pics.
BASIC stamps interpret BASIC instructions at runtime which is slower.
Downside is it ain't cheap, and pirate copies aren't easily located.

So you use pure ASM for programming your pics? How would a "hello world" be written using ASM for the pics?

Why? There ain't no thing such colours on capacitors or diodes.

Very nice update adding an exatra stripe.

i don't know for Capacitors but he could state all of the voltages for different LED's:

Spoiler for Example:

Color Potential Difference

Infrared 1.6 V
Red 1.8 V to 2.1 V
Orange 2.2 V
Yellow 2.4 V
Green 2.6 V
Blue 3.0 V to 3.5 V
White 3.0 V to 3.5 V
Ultraviolet 3.5 V

Some capacitors have 3 digit codes that really screw your head.
That would be a good addition.

But how would you have a graphical presentation for that capacitors?

Except if we're talking about capacitor colour codes

Then it'd make sense. But I don't use any of those anyways

Nah, I mean plug in a three digit code, and the program spits out the value
which often looks nothing like the three digit code.
ie. 104 = 100n.
Disc ceramics are tha main culprit:

I don't think a graphic interface would work, but three digits are easy to enter with an arcade rotator
like the old style method of entering initials.
