happy new year xart....and thanks for the info...............:)
this is what my psp doe's....:)
I have plans to release Choice v2.1 on the 1st Febuary 2008
The source code for the project will be provided to any developers that want it.
Progress report on Choice3 v3.0
Choice3 is basically Choice2 made into a seplugin for CFW
this seems a better way to go instead of a bootstrap for Choice as you can simply activate it anytime with in the XMB.
The reason for Choice3 so erly in Choice2 life
Many users found going back into choice to select a homebrew a bit anoying and I my self find it anoying and desided I was going to do it as a plugin to make it much nicer, a simply plugin that I can bring up Choice in the XMB
Nice idea, I'll be awaiting that one!
BAD NEWS for Choice v2.1 & Source Code
Apple not dealing with my MacBook yet, 6th dec 20 gose faulty and apple say put it in for repaire and not yet dealt with so 1 Febuary will not be met.
April is a more likely date as it is taken them so long to deal with and need the MacBook.
:Argh: Apple takes at least 3 week to deside what to do then another 2 weeks to send parts then at least 1 week for repaire, so any one that thinking about a Mac, Get a PC, just works, Mac just breaks
wow did I just hear what I thought I just heard? The mac whore telling people to get a PC! WOW
a lot of companies employ a "28 day rule" meaning if they can't repair your comp within 28 days they have to replace it. anyway, i know for a fact pc world uses the 28 day rule - thats how i got my new laptop:)Originally Posted by xart
Maybe you should stop being stupid because my MacBook has worked fine for over a year, going through 6 operating systems.
Was explaining why the delay for Choice.
Years ago Macs were very relyable, now it seems less relyable than a PC, it is not just me having issues with Macs.
My MacBook had Windows apps on it that were for dealing with the PSP that I realy needed and have to wait now so is holding me up and also can't test my website that I am developing on Windows.
Was planning to make homebrew in ISO format, can't seem to find a Mac OS X tool and don't have time to write my own but with an Intel Mac i can use windows software as well so ISO is another item that is on hold.
Choice 2.1 in ISO format was the plan and may have to change it back to eboot
Choice 2.1 was planed for at least the 2nd, and still trying to contact apple since the 22nd Dec that is how bad things are for me and realy pissing me off as I want to get Choice 2.1 done and work on Choice 3.0 while updates to Choice v2.1 are made and can't get anything done untill I get my MacBook sorted.
It is great when Macs just work but when they don't and you paid at least a grand and breaks as soon you get it and get told to get it repaired you soon get pissed off.
And most the source code for choice is on the MacBook, so doing a lot of rewriting Choice from the previous backup so is what is causing the delays to this project
Mac is still way better than a PC but at the moment PC laptops cost as little as £300 and just work and seem to be very relyable so Apple needs to get it finger out and sort them selfs out and get them high standerds back.
So still love Macs ther are great but the quality has gone down a lot since the G3, G4 days.
Apple making them too thin, I would like to see a thicker MacBook with replaceable CPU.

I have never had any problems with any of my apple products. And I have never had anything other than apple products so I don't see how you are having issues? Mistreating / not being careful with your stuff?
My first time, great when Mac just works, when don't you have had it.Originally Posted by a_noob
i know the the guy that dose the repairs for apple and it takes them 3 weeks to get a feed back from apple if it should be repaired or replaced
thats apple for you.
and work is backed up just not every five minutes so when coding it can be an issue if you have to go back over to a previous backup.
But I will get v2.1 done, just so frustrating
any way I will be posting some screenshots of what Choice3 will look like in VSH
Project name [Choice VSH]
the concept is to keep it looking like Choice2 as much as possible.
busy working on some screenshots now, these are photoshop , my first time using photoshop made screenshots untill I can get a working version going on PSP to do screen grabs with a seplugin, but the screenshot will look like the finished product

Actual Screenshots of Choice v2.0.5
v2.1 will also have the white look.
v2.0.5 not for public, be for testers only when ready and plan is to activate via plugin.
Choice is pland to come back due to the release of 4.01 M33 and coming back to PSP development I am looking at recompiling my choice project to work on the 4.01 M33 CFW and be improving it.
Choice 4 is made up of these.
Desktop mini : GUI Desktop interface.
Gallery : Viewing and removing pictures
Melody : Playing MP3 files with full ID3 Tag support
Play : Launch homebrew, backups of UMDs and PS1 Eboots "code from 40.01 M33 SDK not by me"
Eye : Camera
then be looking at redoing my Tetris 3D project and then the other games.

The first bit is Desktop mini, will take the most time if any one got any cool ideas for a desktop to have just let me know and I will look into them.
The way I am going do it is wallpaper from the flash1 location so XMB wallpaper will appear in Desktop mini and changing the wallpaper in the desktop will change it in XMB and vice versa.
Icons will be any size, also windows for handerling folders.
That is what I am starting at on the basics.
options to lock the movment of icons on the desktop and other stuff will be possible in order to make it look and behave like a fancy menu system and will be the secret behind choice menu system as it will just be a desktop that has restrictions turned on.
this should allow any one to take desktop mini and use it to make menus for say a collection of games they like to play the most.
that is one of the resons for Desktop mini, to make one element of Choice to be able to be used in other ways and unlock it and become a normal GUI desktop enviroment for the PSP
Desktop mini is the update from Choice eXtreme, so not new just going to do a better version and make it a more of a shell to be used on other stuff by me and others if they fancy.
makining it open source so it can be moded by other developers.
it will be using coreXlib not OSlib

I am very glad you decided to continue with this application.
I use it a lot.
Hows your site going btw?
Prestige 7 On COD4
site needs finishing off, but not geared towards the psp, just finishing another site off them my main one and working on this project bringing it up to date as it has been quite a while since I updated it.
Project is broken up in elements and all the elements become known as choice.
main part Desktop mini will be open source, so expect a src folder in the release
looking into using oslib as going open source will make it easer for other developers, need to get OSlib simulated on Mac OS X via SDL.
then add onto OSlib

Ya, this is the only one I see having potential.
All other are not as well designed.
Prestige 7 On COD4
I notice the issue about iRshell and with winshell being release at the time of me planning Choice I have desided the best way to get a nice shell that every one likes and has no issues is a fully open source shell.
Here is what stage I am at the moment.
Downloaded 4.01 M33 SDK and installed 4.01 M33 on my PSP.
Got my coreXlib up and running without any problems.
reworked the sample that is supplyed with OSlib to work with Firmware 4.xx
2 sec job that was so looking good.
looking at simulating the OSlib function with SDL on the Mac using Xcode to start develope Desktop mini part of what will make Choice
going threw the old Choice src and porting to OSlib as this lib seems a good lib as it will be a open source project fo all.
may use some CoreXlib as not all may be quickly ported but the goal is all OSlib based PSP homebrew
plan on releasing releasing the src when that part of Choice is done.
Do you think you can include usbhost and nethost support?
I use it alot and now that irShell is broken I could use a way of using it :)
Here's a quick rundown of ideas I had dropped before in another post:
I actually have plenty more, especially dealing with how a UI should work, and how to easily manage and and empower the user to have a strong control of the PSP.Shell ideas:
Image effects (blur, emboss, etc)
Flexibility (customize links, images, icons, edit categories, define and auto-scan categories folders)
Don't put in mp3 player unless it's really good, there are plenty of alternatives
Manually order lists (can possibly have a config file where u can order in the pc too)
Great UI with a lot of flexibility to (xml based, so anyone can edit any setting of the ui with some ease, locations, animations, effects, images, where it links to, etc, etc), (Visual multiplatform IDE for making skins)
I already started sketching Ideas that stem from semi-done concepts for NDS DSOrganize, A shell concept of mine for the new Pandora handheld, my own ideas for possible shell designs and ideas for PSP, and a few other personal projects/concepts.
I'll have to do a few quick outline mockups with a series of different ideas and possibilities, as well as their advantages, for evaluation. Despite the incredible amount of recently released shells, there is still nothing that really feels solid and really well thought out. And Choice seems to have the right ideas and directions I'd like to see so far. So I'd love to give my contribution if it'll help make a stronger project.
I think the general shell itself should have a clean and easy to use UI, with good use of visual feedback and easy management of content. But all powered a fully and easy to customize UI, easy management, scanning and relinking of content.
A fully open shell will be a bliss, both for the programmer as well as for the end user, so everyone can truly take full advantage and control.
I'm eager to share my thoughts on this and generate a good feedback from the PSP community in general.
let there be filetype plugins ;) then the shell can be closer to irShell in terms of extensibility.
Here you can see what stage I am at, wallpaper & mouse "analog + cross button" working, it will allow you to select what speed you like the mouse at as every one has his or here speed likes for mouse. please note this prview release will only let the mouse speed be medium speed, slow and fast options will be on final were you simply use a slider control the change the speed of the mouse cursor.
Be posting code the the mouse when it is perfected for other developers to look at and use if they fancy.
Be hosting source code on a single one page website when it progresses further so others can join in and have fun, also thinking of calling the project myChoice as it is all about being fully open and is for every one to add to and reshape to the developers needs.
Here's the logo.
Just a quick sketch in illustrator, but enough to convey the concept.
It´s actuality supposed to resemble an infinity symbol, hence the tagline.
Here's 2 quick iterations. Should be resemble infinity slightly more.
Thank you for the suggestion that it did actualy look like an OC too much.
Oops, wrong link.
(edit doesn't want to work on either firefox3 or IE8)
