Holy be-jesus! Very nice dude! 10th edition you say, damn. When I played, 6th was the new kid on the block! Infact..I still have my killer deck here somewhere, and a whole plethora of Goblin and Orc cards, haha.

Cheers!

dam! this is so sweet, i remembering playing this, brings back memorys I was the dominant player on my block i remember. There was a local tourney at my rec center every week, and I won so much stuff from it. I dont know why i stopped, I guess after time it was getting to expensive to keep up with all the new cards that were coming out.

Please note there was a typo in the readme concerning building sets. Types should be as follows: 0 creature, 1 enchantment, 2 artifact, 3 land, 4 instant, 5 sorcery. (Planeswalkers should be 1). Also, please view the notes on the first post about creating sets.

Also, Theredbaron made another set, Portal, The Second Age. I will keep updating the first post with links to newly made user content. Thanks everyone for the great feedback, I look forward to working on this project for a long time.

It would overwrite the pictures there. But, for example, Portal has 166 cards and 10th ed has 383 cards, so you essentially be leaving on your memory card any cards and thumbnails over 166. Don't worry about it, I'm going to release a beta version tonight that will allow you to store multiple sets. I just have to test it before I give it to you guys.

UPDATE

-fixed bug which didn't allow card names over 27 characters
-set up to allow multiple sets installed at once

LINK: Magic PSP Station beta 1.01

Install

1. Copy set.dat, eboot.pbp, and sets folder to your MPS folder. (Overwrite eboot.pbp)
2. Move name.dat, type.dat, CARD, and THMN from the \MPS\data\ folder to \MPS\sets\10E\
3. Copy your other sets to their respective folders in the \sets\ folder. I recommend using the Magic Workstation naming conventions, but any 1 to 3 character name will work.
4. Change the set.dat file to the three letter code for the set you wish to use for example "10E" for 10th ed. Type only 1 to 3 characters and leave no spaces or any other lines.

Why port portal instead of real sets? Ah well, I guess having the beginners sets available can't hurt *mumble mumble* and it isn't like I'm the one doing the work...Still, Portal??? Why?

Anyways, thanks for the update. Having multiple sets available will be cool once the latest editions are ported (that or all of the older one's).

Is there anyway to choose which set to use from inside the program? You know, without having to rename files?

Creating an AI for a program that could handle any Magic set ever made would be a huge job, even for a whole team of programmers. MPS will probably never have AI. As stated in the first post, the modes of play for MPS 1.0 are solitaire and two player hotseat.

UPDATE

LINK: MPS beta 1.02

-load Magic Workstation type decks

+Move your sets to MPS\sets like this:
MPS\sets\10E
MPS\sets\LR
MPS\sets\P3
MPS\sets\RAV
etc
+Move your decks to MPS\decks like this:
MPS\decks\10E
MPS\decks\LR
MPS\decks\P3
MPS\decks\RAV
etc
with the same 3 letter code as the set.

LINK: Updated name.dat files for MPS beta 1.02 and higher

-name.dat files must be fixed
+lands must be renamed to:
Forest (1)
Forest (2)
Forest (3)
Forest (4)
Mountain (1)
Mountain (2)
etc. etc.
+card names in database files must precisely match those in Magic Workstation database (previous MPS were restricted to only 27 character names for cards)
+most of these changes have been made but some further adjustment of the name.dat files may be necessary

Note: installing the latest MWS database will get you all but the newest MWS precon decks.

Side note: I think putting more than 100 of a single card in a deck would cause a read error, due to the way the lines of the mwdeck format are interpreted. I don't consider it an issue though. If you find yourself wanting to put 100 of the same card into a deck, you need to reevaluate you your deck strategy, lol. ^___^ Also, don't try adding a sideboard, yet.

Did you switch to Magic Workstation format decks? Once you install 1.02b, you have to use MWS format decks. If that's not the problem, tell me what error message you're getting. Note: installing the latest MWS database will get you all but the newest MWS precon decks.

Once you run the database install, they would be in \Magic Workstation\Decks\Precons tructed\ directory. I know it has 10th ed and Ravnica right now. Here are the Lorwyn decks thanks to weapon33.

UPDATE

+1.01: allow multiple sets installed at once
+1.02: load Magic Workstation format decks
+1.02: allow multiple decks installed at once
+1.03: load sideboard (in MWS decks)
+1.03: better MWS deck compatibility
+1.04: set and decks load from set.dat
+1.04: allow both MPS and MPW deck loading
+1.05: choose set and decks at run time
+1.05: loads player names from config.dat

LINK: MPS beta 1.05 (mirror)

Note: To use this update, you must have sets organized to the sets folder, decks organized to the decks folder, and set names updated to MPS 1.02+ format. See previous posts for details.

I haven't been mentioning new sets explicitly but here's an update to you let you know 4 more sets have been added. Also, check out MPS 1.05 beta if you haven't already, you will be pleasantly surprised by the updates.

Portal, Three Kingdoms - Therebaron (1.00)
Ravnica - weapon33 (1.00)
4th edition - weapon33 (1.02+)
9th edition - Anonymouse (1.02+)

This is Charles D. from the QJ Writers team. I just wanted to ask if you could provide a mirror link to v1.50 beta of MPS? We seem to be having trouble downloading it off Mediafire for some reason. We were planning to cover the latest version of your release on the QJ.NET PSP blog. We'd really appreciate if you could give us an alternate download link so we can cover it.

Thanks!

Thanks! I added a mirror link to that post. You may want to hold off just a little while, I've implemented sounds and I'm just in the process of testing right now. ^___^

I have a small request, could you -please- -please- -please- change my user name to transce080? It's missing the second zero right now. I would really appreciate it! If not, please forward my request on to a mod who can take care of it. Thanks!

The current version is 1.05 and is currently classified as a beta release. There's no documentation with 1.05 so make sure to mention that if you're updating from 1.00 straight to 1.05, there are several things you must do:

+ Move your set files (that means name.dat, type.dat, and CARD and THMN directories) to MPS\sets\

MPS\sets\10E
MPS\sets\LR
MPS\sets\P3
MPS\sets\RAV
etc

+ Move your deck files to MPS\decks\

MPS\decks\10E
MPS\decks\LR
MPS\decks\P3
MPS\decks\RAV
etc

Use the same 3 letter code as the set. MWS conventions are recommended.

+ Update your database name.dat files to 1.02+ format

LINK: Updated name.dat files

+ Visit the User Content Share Folder for new sets

Portal - Theredbaron (1.00)
Portal, Second Age - Theredbaron (1.00)
Lorwyn - weapon33 (1.00)
Portal, Three Kingdoms - Therebaron (1.00)
Ravnica - weapon33 (1.00)
4th edition - weapon33 (1.02+)
9th edition - Anonymouse (1.02+)
10th edition - Anonymouse (1.02+)

LINK: User Content Share Folder

UPDATE

+ official MWS theme sounds (thanks again to Malhavoc)
+ new line in config.dat sets sound on/off

LINK: MPS beta 1.06

Warning: I had to rearrange nearly all of the code to implement sounds. This introduces the possibilities for many new bugs to pop up. If you have any problems, just go back to 1.05 and PM me with the details of the bug you found.

Note: To use this update, you must have sets organized to the sets folder, decks organized to the decks folder, and set names updated to MPS 1.02+ format. See previous posts for details.

Yes, thanks for asking. 1.06 beta is still the latest version. Multi-set support is coming next, followed by ad-hoc wifi capabilities. However, it could be several months before we see a new version for public release, depending on the amount of time I can find to work on the project.

Thanks for letting me know and the quick response.

I only asked because I recalled that someone was asking about this on GameFAQs recently and I figured it was time to check in again.

I gave this a try, I had gotten into yugioh instead back in the day so it was all foreign The PSP seems like the perfect platform for collectible card games IMO, have you considered the other popular collectible card games out there?

I'd be willing to attempt a Yugioh one if someone isn't already (for old times sake) if I could get the resources (did a few quick google and torrent searches - no real luck... Last resort is find a one by one approach to the problem (it'd take some time)

P.s. sorry to bump a 10 day old topic.

I imagine that this program could be modified to work with all other TCG's because the PC program (Magic Workstation) that this is based on was designed to work with pretty much all TCG's.

I am unsure how many Yu-Gi-Oh! editions were ported to that so it may be even more difficult to port an edition to this then it would be normally, but I am sure it is possible with a few hours of meticulous work.

Well first thing to keep in mind is that MPS is only inspired by MWS, and isn't associated with Magic Workstation in any way. On the other hand, MPS was designed to work with user-made sets, so there's no reason it wouldn't load a set compiled from YGO cards. Of course, you'd still have to play the cards through the MtG-like interface, which might be less than ideal. I don't really know anything about how to play YGO, but if someone would like to explain the major ways it differs from Magic, I would be willing to look into making a YGO-friendly version of MPS. PM me.
