I've just released Project4 Open Beta 4 over on my forums.
This version sports a lot more updates than Beta 3 did, for obvious reasons, and also comes with the new speedy patcher, any questions just ask, any suggestions, post them on my forum so they are all in the same area. Check the readme, namely the installation as there is some pretty important information, and Project4 really could brick your PSP if you fail to read it, as proved in Open Beta 1 (I also found what the problem was, which could have been avoided if people had read the readme). I'm also looking for some rough time differences for installation, I.E. how fast this version installs on which firmwares, and the length of time previous Project4 versions took. -Aura

Well I'm always open to suggestions, I have been finding it hard to decide fully on an interface. If you are refering to the theme used, you can easily edit this manually or use one of the user created themes. The config file also allows for a lot of customisation once you get to grips with it.

Nope, unfortunatly, I'm trying to avoid recurances of Open Beta 1 by making sure the battery charge is high... that being said at the speed the installer works at now its not really needed I guess.

The EBOOT file should go in: ms0:/PSP/GAME3XX (where XX is your version number, for example GAME352 for 3.52).
Using this folder ensures it will load in the 3.XX kernel. After that you simply launch it from the XMB, and use the full installation method. -Aura

Very nice release. Installation really took only about 20 seconds. Removal was easy and didn't brick my PSP.
Theme is a little 'odd' but I can change it! Audio works great, I love the fact we can choose what kernel we want homebrew to load on when we run it. |

Honestly, I don't think Project4 and the XMB can ever run side by side, I spent about 8 days trying to engineer a new patch that would be XMB friendly, 8 days later I quit and started working on the installer that I've released today.
A bit of background information reguarding the patch: The patch actually re-writes parts of the firmware in order to access enough memory to load Project4, (otherwise I'd be limited to about 50kb of space), the modules that are changed only affect the XMB (Open Beta 1 affected games too, but that was fixed), because of the way the modules are changed, theres no way to allow the XMB to load, as it requires the functions which have been changed. I've looked at many different methods of getting the XMB to load, but short of running Project4 in the 1.50 kernel, which is both impratical to slim users, and impossible to custom firmware users, its not suitable in the slightest. Sorry to burst any bubbles there, but thats the cold hard truth, I'd like to prove myself wrong but I'm not as hopefuly as I was a fortnight ago. The closest possible thing I've managed to get so far is a simple patch/unpatch method, which is speedy, and does the same basic job, you just need to run the installer every time you want to switch between Project4 or the XMB. -Aura

My forums, although the themes are all outdated and so are missing some things, you'll also have to edit the config slightly to ensure Project4 runs correctly.
If you have a theme in mind, you can always make your own too, its quite easy, as long as you can make some PNG images, you can make a theme. -Aura

This has been reported many many times, theres a few posts on my forum to... You need about 2mb of flash0 space in order to install Project4, I forgot to add this to the readme as I was planning on placing everything related to Project4 into flash2 and 3, but I didn't get chance to do so.

but what if you could quit out of project4 and restart into the XMB? They wouldn't be running side by side but would be seperate from each other rather than running simultaneously.

Project4 replaces the XMB files, and the hack removes some of the functions required by the XMB, simply put, it won't work, as I said, trust me on this one I spent 8 days trying to find a patch that would allow it to run properly.
The only method that I can offer is to un-patch the system, and re-patch it when you want to use Project4 again, remember, this isn't a shell and isn't launched like one either. -Aura

ah ok. Does it remove just the xmb files themselves (such as vshmain, rco, etc.) or does it remove other core modules.

It doesn't remove any VSH modules, per say, and it certainly doesn't remove any RCOs. Over on my forums there was a discussion with DrBaronVonEvilSatan about what files could be removed, but it was never brought forward to this release, maybe in the future however.
No core modules are edited anymore, although in the first release a module which also affected gameplay was modified, which caused problems when trying to do certain things in offical Sony games, once the error was noticed it was fixed. Now I check against the 3.40 pspbtcnf.txt file to see which are vsh modules, and which are related to other things, and steer clear. -Aura

I might try this out, in the past I was not to happy about replacing files for a Shell or Alternate XMB, but this seems to be having a good path and a growing project.
I will try this out and see if its worth it. Thanks for the release.

Ugh... of course its possible on Slims, and its possible on fats too, simply free up enough space, one of the best ways is by remove the DIC folder, which I believe is in the root of flash0.

Lmao, you didn't use the three most important things around me:
1) Common sense 2) The search button 3) Flame proof posting protection. Go check around, litterally, the answer is staring you in the face. -Aura
