Default UMDumper BLACK EDITION (0.4.0) Survey + Feature Requests!

So as I'm sure you're all aware I'm hard at work on the new version of UMDumper. And it's going to be bigger and better than ever before.

So I'm going to leave a few things up to you guys, the users!

First off.. The mini-game. Would you prefer...

Tetris
Breakout
Space-invaders
Lights-out
Other (Please comment)

Games need to be small and simple so as to operate within limited CPU time.

Next, for Mp3 Playback. Which would you prefer?

Scan the music folder and just play them in a row
Give me a simple file browser and let me queue them up myself
Other (Please comment)

And finally, the user interface. Would you prefer...

One large menu that scrolls through 1 item at a time (UMDumper 0.3.0 style)
Multiple smaller menus depending on what I'm doing at the time.
Multiple sections that I can flip between with different menu options.
Other (Please comment)

I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback!
You may also make any other feature requests here too.

Having that would many options would make the code difficult to manage, as well as increasing the memory usage higher than I'm happier with.

Space invaders!!!

Simple file browser, I have half of my music in the /PSP/MUSIC folder (the stuff that stays on the stick, tends to be for classes) and the other half in the root MUSIC folder.

Multiple smaller menus, sub-menus tend to give a nice visual as to what you are doing and can be done at the time.

One not, on your last version I found it had issues with Infected. When the game was in the UMD slot and I launched the program my PSP would crash and turn off. When I launched the program and then inserted the game it had the same result, crash and turn off.

Could just be my PSP, but I suspect it is the game as other games dumped fine for me in the past. Will try to do some more testing either later today or tomorrow, but have a lot of other things I plan on so it could be awhile.

*Just a follow-up note.*

Ace Combat X was willing to dump fine, canceled instead of finishing but unlike with Infected it doesn't crash so no more testing seems prompted.

I look forward to the next version, won't get to test it much until the quarter ends but I imagine that will probably be about the time we see a release.

Would it be difficult to make the games little plugin type files. When you start ripping you choose a game (or in the options or something). This way if others wish to develop a game in the way of a plugin for this, they can.

Just throwing the idea out there.

Any news regarding UMDumper Black Edition 0.4.0? Haven't seen any hits in awhile so I decided to stir the pot.

Thanks this program has come along way and well Just loof at it im am so looking forward to the next release and i hope its gonna be the best one yet with no bugs. I thik you should take your time and make this program the best that it can be. I was just curious but are you re-coding the program from scratch or just adding additional code?

Also i look forward to the next release and if its good i think you deserve a few donations

It would be awesome if you could add 4 or 5 games, and it would let you chose at startup (so not all the code would be loaded at the time) like have one game per small file, and you could chose what file to load or something :P

personally i would chose speed over mp3 playback, but if your insisting on adding mp3, i would like it if you could choose what folder to playback, and it would play the songs in that folder in random order

i would like a tabbed menu, kind of like the Multiple smaller menus

good luck, ill sketch up what i would like to see in the menu rly quick

EDIT:
here is my sketch of how i would like the menu, maybe some different color selection or something too

UMDumper 0.4.0 BE is being re-written from the ground up, rather than just an extension to 0.3.0. It uses a much improved threading system for improved performance and reliability, enhanced memory management to help improve CSO speed and everything is now based on OSLib Mod for accelerated graphics and audio playback.

In short, this should be pretty epic by the time I'm done.

One of the things that I would like to see, and I think it is a very good idea too, is that it could convert ISOs on the memory stick to CSOs. And it would have the option to delete the ISO file when finished, or keep it. I don't think it would be too hard to make this feature, but then again, I'm not a coder, so I don't know.

This would really come in handy if you needed to dump the UMD fast, but you could convert it to CSO later. I really think this would be a great feature.

Actually it wouldn't be too hard. You would however need enough free space for both the ISO and CSO version before it (optionally) deleted the ISO afterwards, but entirely doable. Would be slow though, because It wouldn't be able to read + write at the same time.

Also having more than 1 game would be an issue, because the resources for a game are loaded whether I like it or not (Since they are packed into the EBoot) and memory is at a premium.

Space Invaders is entirely doable, do I have a retro-version or a modernized one?

Thats ok if its slow. You could just let it run for a while. True, you would need the space for both even if you wanted to delete the ISO. You could just have it calculate the free space on the memory stick before beginning though, couldn't you?

Great! Yeah I remember. So then do you think you could impliment this feature? I think it would make UMDumper even more useful.

you could put the game(and resourse) on seperate eboot or prx and excute them only when the user will play them and then unload them and free the memory when done

Can you make an CSO.PRX ISO.PRX and then have your EBOOT.PBP with the mini game and menu and other stuff inside it would it help speed or make it lag more?

It probably wouldnt help speed and would certainly make it a lot harder to code
