And if you forget the password?????? Is there an option to restore, if so couldnt everyone just do that then?? If not, isnt that going to be a b*tch for those who forget easily?

It's like the Sony parental control password, if you forget it there's a reset option making the password obsolete in the first place.

Also does this get bypassed if you have UMD autoboot on since it doesnt boot into the vsh but instead the UMD game.

Write it down somewhere?
Put a piece of paper behind the battery and put the cover on.. Though that idea is dumb

Same goes for all passwords. Username, irc, email, msn, aim, etc.

If you use your PSP enough and would like it password protected you wouldn't forget the password as you'd be typing it alot.

For a future build maybe add a security question thing, where if yo udo forget it you can answer a question only you'd know (social security number! lol)

yes, I don't see why someone who would want to protect their PSP with a password wouldn't write it down.

I have pandora though, so I'd survive

Well no it's not like other passwords. Other password systems have a safety net. Take this forum for example, if you forget the password they can send you an email to the email address you used to register and reset your password for you. Or like you mentioned other systems where they ask you a secret question like "What's your mothers maiden name?" or "What's your favourite pet's name?" in the case you forget the password.

The password CAN be recovered, even if recovery menu is protected. Any flash based password protection can be recovered like this.

You have to make a plugin in seplugins on the memory stick.
Make a vsh.txt plugin that mounts flash0: for write, deletes and renames back the original files.

Put the memory stick in another PSP and enable the plugin in that psp's recovery menu. The plugin enabled/disabled state is stored on the memory stick. So when you put the memory stick in a locked PSP it will restore the original files.

But you'd have to know how to code, so not everyone can just do it.

Well, yes obviously .

But I would install if there was a safety rather than having to rely on pandora. Like the secret question for example.

And yes if I use the psp often then yes I would remember the password, but I would use this for my child's psp to control when he could play. I don't want to physically keep the psp away from him. This way he keeps the psp and so then has to come to me to ask for permission to be able to play. He is way too young to know what pandora is and I could easily forget the password for such a thing.

That sounds reasonable enough. I think the creator just posted saying how to remove it just in case though

There's no way to bypass it without modifying the flash0 by some means, which cant be done from the same psp just like that.

What firmware are you using?

I think its got to do with the amount of memory allocated. Can you help me test it with different versions ?

Yeah thats fine until he works out what pandora is, creates one and wipes your nand out of spite. Could happen. Or works out the password, then changes it.

Don't worry, I'm compiling it now. Trying to reduce the memory usage. That might be the problem on the fat.
-= Double Post =-
Try this one. I reduced the heap size as low as possible. Its working on my Slim.
Edit: Get latest one from first post.

yo torch if the psp has run program at "ms0:/PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP", then isnt this bypassable ?

If recovery is unprotected, then yes you can launch an EBOOT at that location. But if you have set it to ask for password at XMB then it will ask for the password when you quit that EBOOT.
But if recovery is not protected you can just toggle flash0: via USB and delete it altogether.

The Autorun EBOOT from ms0:/PSP/GAME/BOOT/EBOOT.PBP will not work.

I'm making a debug version right now which only has a text interface without loading any images. I think its because various PSPs are running out of memory or something, I don't really know why its not working on some.

And by not working do you mean its just a black screen, or it hangs after you input the password?
-= Double Post =-
Debug version is complete. People who can't get it working please try this.
