This was updated to v2. Changes are in bold.
Changelog v2: Added highscores and smashing. v1: First public release. 4² This is a game based on the game "four-square" played all over the world. If the ball goes to your square, you have to hit it so it first bounces in your square and then in someone else's. If you make a mistake, you are out, everyone who was in a lower square moves up, and a new person enters the game in the lowest square (on the bottom-left). The highest square (top-left) is the king square, and if you make a mistake here, you only move to the lowest square, instead of going out. You are the blue player. You earn points for staying in and playing fast shots. You earn double points when you are in the highest two squares. When you go out, your game ends. Screenshots ![]() Main menu. ![]() In-game screenshot. ![]() Highscores. A note about the rules Four-square is played around the world, but the rules vary dramatically depending on where its played - so, don't tell me "the rules are wrong!" Controls Use the analog/or d-pad to move. Hold X to charge up your shot. Release X when the ball is near you to hit it. The ball is hit outward in the direction of the blue cone on your player. If the ball is far away from you when you release X, the ball will be hit at a shallower trajectory, unless the ball is outside your reach. It takes a while to get used to this, but its easy to play the game once you are used to the feel of the game. Try watching the AI players on the main menu. When the bar at the top-right corner of the screen turns compeletely red, you can do a smash. Smashes are much faster and lower when they are completely charged up. To smash the ball, hold circle to charge it up and release it to hit it, like normal shots. Make sure the ball is close to bouncing when you release circle or your shot could go much too far. Also, don't try to smash services because that rarely ends well. Credits Programming - coolguy5678 GFX - coolguy5678 Music - AndrewPotterton of Soundsnap.com SFX - Soundsnap.com Font - P. We play this game at school, and i 'own' at it.. well kinda! lol. Good remake downloading now! edit: Okay it is really hard!! lol. Maybe in the next version you can add a "noodle" version, we call it that where i live.. It is where when you go out you move down to the bottom square, no matter where you were..

Well, how do you go out then? If you're already in the bottom square?
That would make the game really really easy. Maybe as a practice mode? The game gets a lot easier when you get used to the controls. |

Yeah, only the last square can go out!!
Also, maybe add a 'ghosting' mode where when you enter someone else's square they get put off and maybe miss hit or completely miss the ball!!

I would like to implement wifi multiplayer, but:
a) I only have one PSP (so no testing), and b) Its wifi switch is broken. Of course, if you were to give me two PSP's, both with good wifi switches, I'll add wifi multiplayer .The broken wifi switch also makes online highscore lists impossible to test, and they usually get cheated into the ground, anyway. BTW, I'm doing offline highscores right now and they will be in the next release (which will have slim support if all goes well). I am planning "two players on one PSP" mode: player one uses analog and L, player two uses face buttons and R. It's not quite wifi multiplayer, and it does look incredibly strange to onlookers, but it worked in TNT Dude (my tiff game if you remember the tiff game era). |
